The HG series was a wide gauge tender steam locomotive for heavy freight trains on the railways in British India , which was built from 1906. She is one of the BESA locomotives developed by the British Engineering Standards Committee , later called the British Engineering Standards Association (BESA). The abbreviation HG stands for Heavy Goods (Locomotive) . The superheated steam variants were referred to as HGS and HGC .
