User:Velella/sandbox/image spamming

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On 1 January 2024 User:Missvain added an image of a bowl of soup to Jerusalem artichoke. The addition was reverted by User:Eric as"...not an improvement"". The image was re-added without discussion by Missvain, then reverted before being re-added yet again - all without discussion. I then reverted the addition as an un-encyclopaedic image - it could easily have been a bowl of porridge or mushroom soup. 8 days later User:Viriditas re-adds the image with the comment "The image illustrates how the food is used in cuisine.". I reverted it with a request to take the matter to the talk page for discussion.

All the editors involved are very experienced with long records on Wikipedia and one is an admin.

A number of issues stem from this exchange. The contentious image is one of many uploaded by Missvain, in all cases stating that they are their own copyright and choosing to usecc-by-4 requiring appropriate attribution whenever used. The owner of the copyright is given as Sarah Stierch. I cannot find any link between "Missvain" and "Sarah Stierch" and I guess that even if I were to surmise what the relationship was I might be criticised for covert "outing" of an editor. In the absence of a valid link, the image appears to breach copyright. There are hundreds of images similarly uploaded by Missvain but with copyright apparently with Sarah Stierch.
