Background[edit]

Origin[edit]

Action 2020 is a group of 30 youth organisations committed to serve India and to make the country as a Developed Nation by 2020, under the mentorship of Dr A P J Abdul Kalam , former President of India. This team was carved out of India Vision online group.

UnConferences[edit]

Action 2020 was launched in an UnConference held at Chennai on 17th Jan 2009, with the inaugural address by Dr A P J Abdul Kalam and Dr Y S Rajan, duo of India Vision 2020, through telephone [1]. [2] The 2nd UnConference was held at Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai on 27th June 2009.[3] 3rd UnConference [4]was held on 23rd Jan 2010 at Chennai. Representatives of the Constituent organisations come together during UnConference and discussed the common projects and future plans.

Meeting with Dr Abdul Kalam[edit]

Besides, representatives from Constituent Organisations met Dr Abdul Kalam on 24th July 2008[5], 11th August 2009[6] and 7th October 2009 [7] and discussed with him on various common projects and took his guidance.

Activities and Projects[edit]

Collective achievement[edit]

The Constituent organisations are youth organistions with working professionals and students as members/volunteers. They are all backed by more than 10000 such volunteers. Individually, they are taking up several projects to help the poor and weaker sections. Collectively, all the Constituent organisations have undertaken more than 1000 projects, covering nearly 2 lakh beneficiaries and involving a money outlay of Rs.8 million Indian Rupees. Besides, they have also undertaken some common projects.
