Sheephead was an influential punk band from Berkeley, California. After numerous line up changes the "Classic" lineup was established in the mid 1990's. They were Gilman St. mainstays and toured the United States in 1996-1997. They briefly reunited for a few select shows in 2003.
History[edit]
Sheephead was formed in Antioch,California by John Walker and Chris Mcclung.They started out in a rehearsing in a metal shack writing there own original material and playing Ramones covers. Torg Hallin started off on drums when he was not performing with the band Overwhelming Colorfast. After numerous bass players Chris' younger brother Marcus Mcclung was recruited. Torg left Overwhelming Colorfast and switched from drums to guitar.
After their drummer Michael King, left the band Vince Bedford joined. This would be their longest and most well known lineup.
Musical Direction[edit]
Sheephead in it's early incarnation was primarily a street/gutter punk band due to John's Ramones influence and had hints of Phil Spector's wall of sound from Chris' infatuation of the Ramones End of the Century album. The band moved into a hardrock/punk direction due to Vince and Torg's push to make the band "more like Kiss". This heavier and more refined sound can be heard in the latter years of the band.

The band recorded the album "The East Bay Punk Explosion" at Bay Records in Berkeley Ca, in 1994.This record is out of print and very hard to find except for import.This was a split 7 inch record with the band Multifacet which was released by Oakland, California based punk label Zafio.
There are various live recordings at Gilman St. and the University of Chico that are also out of print.
Influence[edit]
San Diego based hard rock Punk band "Tiltwheel" covered the song "March of the flying squirrel" on their first album.Pop/Emo band AFI adopted the band's image of the Reservoir Dog style outfits the band wore live on their album Answer that and stay Fashionable.
