Significance of Joyce Walker

Hello, I may be misunderstanding the workings of Wikipedia, but it looks like you were editing a page for Joyce Walker of West Wickham when it was deleted on grounds of insufficient importance.

I think information about her work should be in Wikipedia, but the page that was deleted was an obituary, not an encyclopedia entry, didn't have enough external links and didn't justify her inclusion.

I've just read a couple of her books, and think that they should be referenced on the West Wickham page. It might also be good to get some material on the Hall Diaries linked into West Wickham.

I don't really understand Wikipedia protocol enough, and don't have masses of time for this, but I do think there is more to be added here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Judgecorp (talkcontribs) 12:21, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia! All articles must meet certain criteria for inclusion in Wikipedia . In the case of Biographies, the criteria is defined in WP:GNG and WP:BIO. In the case of the article you mentioned, it failed to show its Wikipedia based notability by meeting the criteria using reliable sources. Take a look at the criteria in the articles I have referenced and those referenced in the Welcome message in your talk page and let me know if you have any questions. Speedy deletion nomination of Trisket

I appreciate the notice. However, it would be more helpful to list the specifics of how the disambiguation page did not meet the guidelines, rather than just stating that it did not. Such information would help avoid the speedy deletion tag in the future. --Rlyehable (talk) 19:48, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

It seemed to be rather obvious, since neither of the items listed was really related to the title of the article. Disam pages generally are used to advise readers that there articles with the same name and give the reader a chance to pick the correct item. They are not used to allow for spelling errors or such. ttonyb (talk) 20:06, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Hey!

The article is already deleted, I've done another one here as a stub and it's contested to be deleted. How can I solve this problem? --Capo (talk) 05:49, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks I hope you have a great year. Did you read WP:BIO and WP:GNG? ttonyb (talk) 05:58, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
In this case, WP:ENTERTAINER and WP:BASIC are the most relevant notability policies. --Slon02 (talk) 06:16, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

No, I haven't read these links. while I was editing the page, I can't save it because there's somebody else editing it at the same time. I've found out quite much of the article have been deleted. User:Capolinho

I've been watching the situation unfold regarding User talk:Capolinho and Booby Julia. However, your actions seemed rather BITEy and could potentially scare users away from Wikipedia. Instead of piling up a long list of speedy deletion notifications and threatening warnings (including last stage warnings that state that the user is about to be blocked), it is much better to approach the user with non-templated messages and explain to them what they are doing wrong and how they can fix it. --Slon02 (talk) 15:44, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments. ttonyb (talk) 16:33, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

OffshoreSoluciones‎

why aren´t you interested in free speech? and why do you want to censure the researchs in argentinian economy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrucho (talkcontribs)

This is not a matter of "Free Speech". This is simple a matter that the article fails to meet the criteria for inclusion into Wikipedia. In the case of Companies, the criteria is defined in WP:GNG and WP:COMPANY. OffshoreSoluciones‎ fails to show its Wikipedia based notability by meeting the criteria using reliable sources. Take a look at the criteria in the articles I have referenced and those referenced in the Welcome message in your talk page and let me know if you have any questions. Happy New Year! ttonyb (talk) 05:05, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Well i wanna know how is it that you know that its not an important company? maybe you lve in argentina?
before maqking a statement like that you should really do some investigation and check out how the econmy works in some countrys — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrucho (talkcontribs) 05:12, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Or is it that you work for the goverment and you dont want new ideas out there on the web? are you scared about what they will say in there new book? is that it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrucho (talkcontribs) 05:16, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
I heard a wonderful quote today, "It is possible to disagree with someone without being disagreeable." I suggest you memorize the quote. What makes you so sure I did not research the company or have little knowledge of Argentina? As I indicated above, all articles must meet certain criteria for inclusion in Wikipedia. That criteria is based on Wikipedia based notability. I also suggest you read WP:CIVIL, it is one of the pillars of Wikipedia contributions. My best to you. ttonyb (talk) 05:21, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
si tanto sabes de argentina vas a entender el español. por que no venis a vivir aca?
please explain and describe where you´ve got the information to afirm the lack of notability. if you tell me this, and you convince me i will delete myself this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrucho (talkcontribs) 05:25, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Many people speak Spanish throughout the world and are multilingual. I have many German friends that speak Spanish better than I. Regardless, I digress. It is not up to me to prove the article meets the criteria I listed above. You, as the author, have the burden of proof. The article is not notable for one reason and one reason alone, specifically, the article fails to meet the criteria in WP:COMPANY using reliable sources. I am not sure how I can be more specific than that. ttonyb (talk) 05:31, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Hi well i see that you didnt not even take the time to see that the external link n1 is the Subsecretaría de comercio exterio maybe thats not a reliable sources if its not the Trade Unterstaatssekretariat Äußere Deutschland... if it figured there maybe you woudl not have a problem with it.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrucho (talkcontribs) 05:42, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Again, I suggest you not assume anything. Both were read; however, if you reviewed WP:RS as I asked above you would have seen they do not meet the criteria to support the article. ttonyb (talk) 05:46, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
well then i think that and argentinan goverment source is good for what it asks as -reliable, published sources- But as its also posted The reliability of a source depends on context maybe for you and argentinan official goverment page is not a source that is valid. Maybe if this company figured in the Unterstaatssekretariat für Außenhandel in Deutschland then it would be considered a valid source and there reasearch was about the USA or Germany then we would not be having this conversation... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrucho (talkcontribs) 05:59, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi Tony. In the light of further developments of the article and the addition of significant sources, could you consider self-declining your CSD? Warning tags query

Hi there. With regard to this, I agree that it's an annoying editor, but I thought that non-IP editors were allowed to edit their own Talk pages, the logic being that removing the warning is in effect an acknowledgement that they've seen it? Best wishes DBaK (talk) 18:35, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Lucas Abbott

hi, i just created the lucas abbott page and it's up for speedy termination. i apologize, i have no idea what i'm doing here. can you please explain how i can add a reference so i don't get my page terminated? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Whorah (talkcontribs) 06:12, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

First of all , please sign your comment using four tildes ~~~~ . References are used to support statements made in the articles. For instance, if you make a statement that the moon is green, the reference must support that comment. In the case of the Lucas Abbott article, if you say he is the world champion X in the United States, the reference must support that he is that. A reference to the world or to the United States does not support he is the world champion. A valid reference for that would be a newspaper article or independent website that supports the statement that he is the world champion. All references must meet the criteria in WP:RS. If you have any questions, please let me know. ttonyb (talk) 15:34, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Yes sir, there are articles from a newspaper called "The GatorTail Times" written by a fairly well known man named John Callum who covers big events in Florida. He just wrote about the tournaments that the individual won, concerning the individual, and his success. They are currently being processed on a credible website, however they are only on facebook at the moment, which is not a reliable source. They will soon be featured on credible sites, hopefully within a few days. I know there are at least 2 articles concerning his main titles. Hopefully the website in which the articles will hopefully be posted are a reliable source. I guess we'll have to wait and see. Thank you very much again!! Your truly helping me. Bruno Osimo stub

Hello Ttonyb1, This author, Bruno Osimo, has written the most read online translated translation course in the world, his influence and notoriety are not contested at least in Europe and here are some of his books:

I don't understand why a very small article about a notable scholar in Translation science should be eliminated in English when wikipedia admits is in other languages. I am a University Teacher, in South America, and my motivation to contribute here to this modest article is just a peer-recognition of the quality of the work of Mr. Osimo. Other notable professional of the field can also intervene in favour of this article, which need to be improved but not deleted. --Comptrad (talk) 12:40, 9 January 2011 (UTC)--Comptrad (talk) 12:47, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

The article fails to meet the criteria for inclusion using reliable sources. It appears to fail WP:BIO and WP:CREATIVE. I cannot speak to the inclusion of the article in other projects; however, it may be better supported in those articles or it might be that the article in those projects should be deleted as well. ttonyb (talk) 15:41, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Bruno Osmo article

Please explain how this article about Bruno Osimo a candidate for deletion. Anyway you should open a special page for the deletion of the article, so other contributors can intervene and a vote can take place. If you don't follow the procedure for an article submitted to deletion, your intervention may also appear as a form of vandalism. The books that Mr Osimo has written can be found on internet. The references are verifiable. So what are you doing? If you believe it must be deleted, follow the procedure, submit the deletion process to a vote Adumoul (talk) 18:02, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Adamoul, Tony has expressed a perfectly legitimate reason for doubting the notability of the subject, and has applied one of our standard processes. He is not obliged at this stage to explain his action to you. Accusing him of vandalism however, using impolite tones, and removing maintenance templates may lead to you receiving further warnings. --Kudpung (talk) 18:34, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
Kudpung, thanks.
Adumoul, I'll assume you have read my comment above where I explained my reasoning for nominating the article for deletion. What is it you do not understand about why this article appears to fail the criteria for inclusion. Just being an author is does not automatically make one notable per Wikipedia criteria. The references may be verifiable, but the fail to meet the criteria for reliable sources.
Kudpung is correct that this is a legitimate method to request deletion of an article. Adumoul, if you do not understand the process, feel free to ask questions or disagree; however, please remember it is possible to disagree without becoming disagreeable in tone. Being disagreeable is not in the spirit of the Wikipedia community. ttonyb (talk) 18:52, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
Sorry for the undiplomatic phrasing, unfortunately that I have been in internet "vacation" during the time that you have nominated this article for deletion and I didn't log in during the week...now I will, as suggested, and if you don't object, remove the PROD deletion tag and the deletion of the article may become subject to a vote. We will add content justifying the notability of Mr. Osimo. Basically, in addition to his books and his academic credentials, he has written the only free online 10 languages translation course - in 200 chapters - available in the world, published on the site of the portal www.logos.it. It is widely consulted and his analysis are used in translation studies and linguistics, so the failure to meet criteria for notoriety appear ironic when articles about a boxing featherweight in north Korea or any unknown sport person or beauty pageant winner seem to meet the criteria. About the removal of the deletion tag, I need clarification: It is said on one hand that it is not constructive, but on the other hand that it stop the PROD process and changes the procedure. That is what I want to do... --Adumoul (talk) 23:24, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
You are more than welcome to remove the PROD tag. ttonyb (talk) 16:29, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Your opinion of events of "worldwide significance"

So you think that an amendment to the United States Constitution (the 27th and last one at) lacks "worldwide significance," but these do in 1992:

Jan. 26 - Washington Redskins win SuperBowl XXVI May 19 - A woman (Amy Fisher) shoots her lover's (a complete unknown) wife May 19 - Dan Quayle gives his "famous speech on an American sitcom May 25 - Jay Leno becomes the host of the Tonight Show

These are just examples. Yet you have things like:

June 1 - Kentucky celebrates its bicentennial statehood Sept 24 - The Kentucky Supreme Court okays same-sex sodomy

So Kentucky's bicentennial celebration is of more worldwide significance than the U.S. amending its Constitution? How many people in the world do you think even knows what or where Kentucky is? Same goes for Kentucky's Supreme Court. How many people know about that the United States has a Constitution? The funny thing is, the posting about the 27th Amendment was there already; I just corrected the date (it erroneously read May 5, 1992, with Alabama being the 38th state to ratify it.)

But, really, I don't care enough about this to start some debate on it. If in your mind Jay Leno, the Washington Redskins, Amy Fisher and the VP on a sitcom trumps the U.S. amending its Constitution (how many other countries even DO that?), go for it.Tcarterva (talk) 15:00, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Rather than assuming something that is not correct, you might have asked if your assumptions about my actions were true. Basically, you could have assumed good faith. I did not say they others have worldwide significance. I said the one I removed did not. I have not reviewed the other entries in the article; however, based on your comments I agree they do not. Feel free to remove them if you feel they do not meet the criteria in WP:RY. My best to you. ttonyb (talk) 15:56, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

I took you at your word that you thought amending the U.S. Constitution lacks "worldwide significance." It's just curious to me as to why, with Leno, Amy Fisher and all on the same page, that you targeted the entry that I edited (but did not create), but ignored the others. Again, I don't care enough about this to bother with it. My best to you as well.Tcarterva (talk) 17:06, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Jesse Bonanno Submission

Hi ttonyb, If you don't mind I'd like to open a discussion as to why you feel the Jesse Bonanno article I recently created should be deleted. I am new to wikipedia and am still getting my bearings so I apoligize if I'm missing something obvious. Thanks, Musicwriter37 (talk) 00:22, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Welcome, Musicwriter37. The reason I have nominated the article for deletion is the article has portions that appear to be copied from the website [2]. Copyrighted material cannot be accepted for use unless the text has been donated to Wikipedia or the text has been released with a license compatible with Wikipedia. Keep in mind that the text need not be exact copy, but can be a close copy. The bigger issue may be that the article may not meet the notability criteria in WP:BIO or WP:MUSIC using WP:RS. ttonyb (talk) 02:17, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks Ttonyb! I read somewhere that if the site being referenced includes the text "Licensed under the CC-BY-SA license" this would grant Wiki the right to use the copyrighted material. This text is included on the http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bonanno2 site. To view this license you can click the "read more" link under the album notes section. It's posted at the bottom of the passage.
In addition I modified the passages to acheive a greater level of uniqueness and originality. With these new changes in place would you see this article as more acceptable? If there's anything else I can do I'd be glad to oblige. I'd really like this article to be part of the wiki community. Again Thanks, Musicwriter37 (talk) 02:42, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
You are absolutely right. I have removed the CSDs and added a couple of concerns related to the notability of the subject. Currently there is no concern about deletion; however, that is not to say someone will not tag it as not meeting WP:BIO or WP:MUSIC using WP:RS. My best to you and if you have any questions, please let me know. ttonyb (talk) 05:42, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Give more time to The Bruno Osimo article

The innovative aspects of Osimo's works are in the way he Articulate and develop various schools of thinking about translation and semiotics. To summarize it for a brief wiki article is not something to do in a rush.

Speedy Deletion Help Request

Hi ttonyb, I started a page for Bloginity earlier this week which is up for speedy deletion as a very short article lacking sufficient context. I have responded on the Talk:Bloginity page. I was looking for the history of the Bloginity but I was not able to find the page history to see whether there was an improvement that could have been done.

I was hoping you can help me take a look at the page and direct me how I can improve it rather then deleting it. Thanks in advanced for taking your time to read this comment. Your help is very appreciated, looking forward to your reply.(Kind regards, Knox387 04:10, 19 January 2011 (UTC))

I have finally had a chance to review the article and it appears if fails to establish notability using reliable sources. The articles used for reference are not about the organization and do not support notability. Sorry, but unless the article can come up with better support it is likely to fail the AfD. Brother (Britpop band)

Could you explain what happened here? This appeared to be an article on a subject that we already had an article for but with different content and different sources. It seems odd that you would first redirect it to the other article rather than merging the content, and then secondly tag the redirect that you just created for deletion straight away as a "Recently created redirect from implausible typos or misnomers". --Michig (talk) 19:09, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

What happened was I messed up. I thought I had a copy of the article that I could merge into the newer one. If you can userify to me it I can continue the process. Thanks... ttonyb (talk) 19:21, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Re:Azalea Iniguez

Saw your message on Roeslerm's talk page concerning the article and your willingness to try and help the user with the afd. For what its worth I was reluctant to nominate the article for deletion, and left my own message inquiring about the work being done to the article in hopes that an reply of still working would allow me to move the article into the userspace. I'm not sure if its a language barrier or a simple misunderstanding of the way things work, but Roeslerm (talk · contribs) seems reluctant to ask for help, or to even answer simple questions/inquiries. Its a long shot, but it may be worth extending an olive branch in Spanish to see if the user is more comfortable communicating in that language rather than English; it could help us help Roeslerm with the article. TomStar81 (Talk) 05:18, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

I had thought about this and had actually started to write something in Spanish. I then went back and looked at the text of the article and decided Roeslerm (talk · contribs) had not made any glaring errors in the English that was used in the article. I was concerned that they might assume that I considered them an non-english speaker and take offense, so I decided against it. ttonyb (talk) 06:07, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
Well, when this is done at least we can say we tried to help. I know its not my fault per say, but I still feel bad about the impending deletion :/ TomStar81 (Talk) 08:02, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

A7 only applies to articles about web content and to articles about people, organizations, and individual animals themselves, not to articles about their books, albums, software, or other creative works. <--I definitely had many links to "creative work" by these guys. So I'm wondering what is going on.

The links did not support any of the text in the article and/or did not mention the subject of the article. The article was inadvertently marked as {{db-band}} instead of {{db-a7}}; I have updated the tag. ttonyb (talk) 18:12, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Irving Quant article deletion nomination

This person travels to different cities and has publications made in different locations. The articles are there. Read them before putting the deletion nomination and make a search of his name online. I am a fan of his work and have seen him perform, purchased his products, and follow his career along with thousands of others. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abriotelon (talkcontribs)

Please do not assume that I did not read the article or searched for him online. I suggest you read WP:AGF. If someone is covered by local news, then then the coverage is local, it is not national in nature. So as I said, the coverage is local in nature. ttonyb (talk) 03:05, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
What would you need for me to be able to make an article about him? I don't know him personally either, but his work is out there for us magicians to read and follow him.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Abriotelon (talkcontribs)
First of all please sign your entries with four tildes (~~~~). In order to the article to survive the AfD it must meet the criteria in WP:BIO or WP:CREATIVE to establish notability using "non-trivial" reliable sources. ttonyb (talk) 03:21, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
He does meet the criteria within the world of magic and magicians do recognize him in his field. Would he be better in another category? Other magicians and myself gathered the resources and put this article together for him. I don't know if he has other articles that would make him qualify. (Abriotelon (talk) 03:32, 22 January 2011 (UTC))
Being recognized, popular, or being well-known by other magicians in the "real-world" is not a criteria for inclusion into Wikipedia. The individual has to meet the criteria in WP:BIO or WP:CREATIVE to establish notability using "non-trivial" reliable sources. ttonyb (talk) 03:36, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
According to WP:CREATIVE] he does. "The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by PEERS or SUCCESSORS. On the second number "The person is known for originating a significant new concept, theory or technique.", which is clearly noted on his release of material within his field. The third number says "The person has created, or played a major role in co-creating, a significant or well-known work, or collective body of work, that has been the subject of an independent book or feature-length film, or of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews." which he has by being one of the three founders of The Magic Session, the first online source of streaming lectures and shows for magicians worldwide.(Abriotelon (talk) 03:40, 22 January 2011 (UTC))
There is no evidence of any of this in the article and based on what I have read about the individual he really doe not appear meet the items you cited. There are many online sources of streaming lectures and shows for magicians. Streaming of card tricks or magic techniques has been on the web for many, many years. ttonyb (talk) 03:49, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
Regardless of that, he still meeds criteria 1 and 2 and the citations can be found online. Please search his name and you will find many other magicians that are doing his tricks on youtube videos and talking about it on forums. Please note that we provided the citations as well as more information necessary to back this up. With all due respect, and hopefully this doesn't come off as rude, but I don't see how this isn't noted at the moment by moderators. Thank you. (Abriotelon (talk) 03:52, 22 January 2011 (UTC))
I see no evidence of meeting of the criteria you mentioned. Just because someone is doing the same magic as someone does not make one notable. BTW - YouTube and Forums are not reliable secondary sources to support inclusion into Wikipedia. You, as the author, have the burden to provide the reliable sources to support the article. I do not understand what you mean by, "I don't see how this isn't noted at the moment by moderators." ttonyb (talk) 03:58, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
Well, because he presents articles published in newspapers and television sources and yet it is nominated for complete deletion. If he didn't have any of them at all then we would understand, but we are presenting you with the sources here. Now, as for the techniques that he has published, how are we to prove this other than from the production company itself (www.dananddave.com) that made his DVD and released his material? In our field we have our own publications, such as The Magic Newswire and Itricks.com .We found a video for you to watch that speaks of his technique: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JX4BL2G6FwI&feature=more_related
Please help us with guidance as to what we can give you because we read all the sources you are sending us to and we believe that we have indeed provided more than enough to meet the criteria. (Abriotelon (talk) 04:09, 22 January 2011 (UTC))
Can you please stop over indenting your comments. All it takes is one more : than the last comment to continue the indent to the next comment. ttonyb (talk) 04:13, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
Sorry about that. We haven't received a response from you in regards to our last post. You have many more magicians in here that are not as well sited and noted as Mr. Quant is and we just find that a bit unfair. His publication is his DVD and distributed worldwide. This is considered a film. By that alone he has qualified under the notable person category. Thanks. (Abriotelon (talk) 04:23, 22 January 2011 (UTC))

Simply put, the article is nominated because the sources are inadequate to support the article. There are numerous articles written that provide sources that are inadequate and are as a result deleted in a AfD. For instance, making a statement such as, "Today Irving is considered one of the top innovators in the field" supported by an press release for an appearance at a local high school (Amarillo High School Theater Group Presents World Renowned Sleight-Of-Hand Artist), is not support for the statement. Has the individual won any major awards; has the individual had coverage in the nation press or outside his local performance area; or has the had a major television show build around him. (BTW-His DVD is not a reliable secondary source. In addition, world-wide distribution is very common these days. I should also note this is not really "world-wide distribution" since it appears the DVD is available in only a Region I format. If it were available in other regions it would be truly "world-wide".) Have there been any independent articles that analyse his work in his field. These are examples of reliable secondary source. As far as the existence other articles, each article must stand on its own merits - the existence of other articles has no bearing on this one. ttonyb (talk) 04:33, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

So if we edit this, taking that sentence that you mentioned there, we could have it in? The article you quoted is of him appearing at high school in a city, but it also mentions several things about him and his career. I think that's a reliable source if the station's reporter wrote it don't you think?(Abriotelon (talk) 04:45, 22 January 2011 (UTC))
His DVD is available online, and purchases have been made from magicians worldwide. We know this because of youtube videos presented by other magicians in other countries exist as well as the youtube video we posted comes from the UK. I don't know where this "available only in a certain region" fact came from, but it is inaccurate. (Abriotelon (talk) 04:49, 22 January 2011 (UTC))
First of all, I do not control if the article will be allowed to stay in Wikipedia. That decision is made by an independent Admin based on the article meeting the criteria in those articles I referenced above. The article you mentioned is really no more than a press release for his appearance at a local high school. There has to be "non-trivial" coverage of the individual - multiple articles of importance are necessary to establish notability.
Again, world-wide distribution is very common these days. Since the site to buy the DVD does not require a region to be specified, then one can only assume it is available in a single format. ttonyb (talk) 04:53, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
Speedy deleted, he should have gone to WP:DRV rather than recreate it twice today. Dougweller (talk) 06:10, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up... ttonyb (talk) 06:20, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Murder of Liam Hogan --> Liam Hogan

Just a heads up that I renamed the article because its original title is possible defamatory given that the father was found not guilty of murder. I fully support your AfD and COI assertion. --Simple Bob a.k.a. The Spaminator (Talk) 19:42, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, I saw your rename and agree with it. Thanks for your support. ttonyb (talk) 21:09, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

The Shalom Show on television

I apologize for any unintentional violation and errors made in submitting my article. I did not know one must not provide phone numbers. This is my first and probably last article and I thought I could help Wikipedia confirm and verify my article by not only seeing their Wikipedia articles, but having contact information also. I aplogize and ask how can i remove the numbers and make corrections?

The article I submitted is all factual. Some of the guests on the show are notable individuals and organizations that have Wikipedia articles about them, which I added in my edit attempts.

The Shalom Show is on the air nationwide in the United State of America on the Jewish Life Television network, Jewish Life TV which is carried on DirecTV, List of DirecTV channels (United_States). My intention is to contribute an article such as Shalom TV. The Shalom Show on TV owns this trademark since December 13, 1983 http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=4010:v7tsa.2.1 Is there anyone who could assist me in correcting this article Please? Many thanks, Josephn18 (talk) 17:42, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

All articles in Wikipedia must meet certain criteria for inclusion. Wikipedia based notability must been met in order for the article to remain in Wikipedia. Currently the article does not meet that criteria. In addition, you as the author, have the burden of proof. Just saying something is true does not establish notability using reliable sources. If you say the subject is broadcast nationally, then you must provide a valid source that supports that statement in the article.
The name may be trademarked, but per WP:MOS trademarks are not used in Wikipedia articles. The show may have had "notable" guests, but since notability is not inherited nor can it be passed from a "notable" figure to another person or entity that does not make the show notable. I can help you with the article, but you need to provide valid references per WP:RS that support the notability of the article per WP:GNG. ttonyb (talk) 19:26, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

The Shalom Show on tv

Dear Ttonyb1, First let me thank you for your patience and kind help. Please let me respond to your comments: Wikipedia based notability must been met in order for the article to remain in Wikipedia. Currently the article does not meet that criteria. In addition, you as the author, have the burden of proof. Just saying something is true does not establish notability using reliable sources. If you say the subject is broadcast nationally, then you must provide a valid source that supports that statement in the article. The proof is in Wikipedia. The subject is broadcast nationally on DirecTV: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirecTV Looking up DirecTV channel list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_DirecTV_channels_(United_States) Scrolling down to channel 366 one sees Jewish Life television listed. • Looking up Jewish Life television on Wikipedia brings up; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_Life_Television and clicking their Official web site brings up the JLTV website in which one will see the Shalom Show listed and currently scheduled. • Looking up he shalom Show on television on Wikipedia brings up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shalom_Show_on_television and external links to www.shalomshow.com • Looking up Jewish Media on Google I found an outdated listing for the Shalom Show on: http://208.112.12.53/county_listing.php?county=Broward&category=Media • Looking up the Shalom Show on Google brings us: http://www.youtube.com/user/SHALOMshowTV#p/a/u/1/PhSlZSe0vVk and one can see that Richard Peritz is the producer and host. • http://thinkprogress.org/2011/01/24/west-ellison-antithesis/ A question I’d like to ask is the Wikipedia articles on Jewish Life Television and Shalom TV better confirmed and validated that the evidence I’m submitting for the Shalom Show on tv? The show may have had "notable" guests, but since notability is not inherited nor can it be passed from a "notable" figure to another person or entity that does not make the show notable. I must be misunderstanding what is required for notability. The Shalom Show has had more VIP guests past and present than other shows, due to the fact that it’s been on the air many more years, since April 1979 I can help you with the article, but you need to provide valid references per WP:RS that support the notability of the article per WP:GNG. ttonyb (talk) 19:26, 24 January 2011 (UTC) Thank you so much again. I can do this. I have valid references, but do not know how Wikipedia needs them provided. The notable guests I referred to if contacted they would confirm the article. Could the show founder Richard Peritz serve as a valid reference also? I saw the categories associated with Wikipedia’s article on Shalom TV and they’d be applicable for the Shalom Show also. I just don’t know how to add all of this. I am embarrassed and apologize for my bothering you with this and thank you wholeheartedly.

Sincerely, Josephn18 (talk) 04:23, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

First of all Welcome to Wikipedia!!! Please do not be embarrassed or feel you are bothering me with this. I would love to see the article survive, but it has a way to go. First of all Wikipedia cannot be used as a reference for articles. The thought is that the information in other articles may not be supported by reliable sources. Additionally, YouTube is not considered a secondary reference. As I said, notability cannot be passed to another. If this were so, all the parking attendants and waiters in Hollywood would have their own Wikipedia page. 8-) Peritz would be considered a primary reference and it would not support the article, again the article needs independent, secondary references. If you have a good secondary reference, send it to me and I will add it to the article. My best to you... ttonyb (talk) 05:55, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Shalom Show on tv

Dear Ttonyb1, Thank you for your kind assistance! I now understand that referring to existing Wikipedia articles or using Peritz the primary reference as evidence does not work. You wrote: If you have a good secondary reference, send it to me and I will add it to the article. Could Dr. Abraham Fischler, the President Emeritus of Nova Southeastern University serve as a secondary reference source? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham_S._Fischler He would be glad to. How do I submit him to Wikipedia as a secondary reference source? Also; how do I add the following to my article?

Lucas Abbott

Mr. ttonyb, I recently provided references and sources for my "Lucas Abbott" page and went without any notifications for a good 2 weeks. Now I get a message saying "it's up for deletion". I'm very confused because I thought the problem was providing sources and references which I believe to have done. Can you please give me some advice. And as always, your awesome! and thank you 173.132.180.205 (talk) 16:29, 25 January 2011 (UTC)WhoRah

I looked at the references and a couple did not support the text they were attached to and one was a copy of another. The references you have provided do not support the gist of the article and a search of Google does not provide any of substance. The article must be supported by independent, "non-trivial" references. I have nominated the article for AfD in order to get more opinions about the article and help providing references. ttonyb (talk) 17:19, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
Well I agree that some of the references aren't. I just put a few on to see if they would stick. A few were added not by me. I'm not sure who it was, but I pretty much gave up on trying it, and I looked it up a week later and somebody edited it and got it to stay. But thanks ttonyb, your a life saver!! Changes for Dresden Files - Storm Front Graphic Novels

I'm just curious why you changed these to redirect Pages ?

They are NOT the same book (Plot yes, But not the same book). They have separate ISBN's, publishers, etc. ?

Thanks ! --SirGeek CSP (talk) 17:40, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

The article lacked content and consisted of links to the page I redirected it to. ttonyb (talk) 22:03, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Jeffry Allen McHone

Thanks for you input on the prior article Jeffry Allen McHone.

I showed your comments to Dr. McHone and he respected and agreed with your comments that the tone and content of the article I wrote was too self promotional.

He further asked that if I rewrite the article, I follow your suggestions and again get your input so that the article would be more “encyclopedia” worthy.

I did review other articles in Wiki on infomercials, and those I found only dealt with short form – meaning the two minute variety infomercial – that direct sell “household” type products. There is nothing on the half hour variety (long form) infomercials with a call to action to attend a live educational seminar.

In that Dr. McHone is the man who pioneered long form infomercials – with a direct response call to action for viewers to attend a live educational seminar – a concept that was commercially successful for his company – and more importantly was a new “viable” revenue generator for TV stations because the shows he produced held acceptable ratings to air in prime time. Therefore, both he and the infomercials he produced, especially ‘Secrets of the Rich and Successful” are “notable” – literally giving the financial spring board to a new form of advertising – long form infomercials - that today is a 4 billion plus industry.

The references I cite are from the business records of his company, Success Seminars International, Inc., television stations on which the show aired, and most importantly, the major television representative companies (the companies hired by the stations to place advertisements – including infomercials – on their channels) who can verify that indeed Jeffrey McHone was the pioneer and the man who made long form acceptable to air – and more a huge source of new revenue for the stations – all across the nation.

Therefore, your input is again appreciated to form (tone and content) the article in a way that is proper WIKI and gets the information across noting the accomplishments and impact without crossing the line of self promotion…. and I would further appreciate any final suggestions you may have , that will enable this article to be accepted in Wiki

your input and comments are appreciated before we go live with this revision

As a side note: I did drop the Drifters reference – however, they did perform at his Birthday at Vista Del Lago – and they are in the rock and roll hall of fame and in Rolling Stone’s top 100 groups – I can send you a picture or two of the Birthday party if you would like. I had mentioned that in the previous article because that is the status Dr. McHone still commands - a personal performance as a gift from his friends for his Birthday.

Do go to the HBO link to see pictures of the waterfront estate home - they did a nice job filming it – the courtyard where Mr Cotto is jumping off the tower is where the stage was built for the Drifters. The home is historically important because it was built in 1925 as a wedding present for the daughter of the owner of Cuesta Ray Cigars. The Cuesta Ray family’s friend was Ester Williams, and the tower was used for Ester to make one of famous dives in the movie ‘Ester Williams at Cypress Gardens’. It is a landmark in Tampa.

There are a number of issues with the article. First, the article is not written independently of the subject. Wikipedia frowns upon articles written by non-independent editors. The fact that you have a relationship with the subject makes it difficult to be independent. Please see WP:COI. Secondly, the article lacks reliable sources that support notability. I am not sure that subject is sufficiently notable enough to support an article. A quick look at Google provides no GHits or GNEWS of substance to support notability. ttonyb (talk) 22:19, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

The Shalom Show on tv

Hi again Ttonyb1, May I bother you again please? I've spent so much time on this first article, I'd like to justify it by succeeding with it because it is correct. I see some progress is made with Categories added and I'd like to resolve the issue: "It has few or no links to other articles". I'd like to suggest linking to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_Life_Television and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shalom_TV and other similar articles. By the way, I did not see links or references in these 2 short articles. How did they get theirs published with no risk of deletion, whereas my article about a show that has been on the air for many more years, is having article problems? Please help resolve the remaining issues with my article. Thank you so much! 65.11.29.146 (talk) 13:28, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Nick Lopez

Hi, I was wondering why you marked Nick Lopezto be immidiatley taken down? I believe that it meets all the criteria for a page; due to the fact it is about the person's releases. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Muzicguy123 (talkcontribs) 07:10, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

The article fails to establish notability using reliable sources. ttonyb (talk) 07:13, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Ok, then what would you consider to be a reliable source? I included a newspaper and the artist's bio. How many sources do you need to become noteable? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Muzicguy123 (talkcontribs) 07:18, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

DJ Mixx

Hello,

Was working on an entry for "Dj Mixx," and before I was through, you had reported me for quick deletion. I am new to wikipedia and would indeed like to revise my add so that it meets criteria. Can you tell me what was not in compliance? — Preceding unsigned comment added by DJMIXX305 (talkcontribs) 05:44, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Sure, the article fails to establish notability using reliable sources. Take a look at these articles and the welcome message on your talk page and let me know if you have any questions. ttonyb (talk) 05:52, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
Hey tony, I see what you mean about the credibility. I am not through formatting, as I'd like to spread my work over the next couple days, but I added credentials as a performer. Again, I'm clearly going to make it look neat, etc., but I am primarily concerned w/ getting the entry un-flagged so that the page will be removed from jeopardy. Please have a look at the resume listings, and let me know if the notability angle is on the right track. DJMIXX305 (talk) 06:54, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
I see Fæ has already commented on your talk page. I concur with those comments. ttonyb (talk) 15:20, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Kate Graham

Hello Ttonyb1. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Kate Graham, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The article makes a credible assertion of importance or significance, sufficient to pass A7. Thank you. ϢereSpielChequers 18:07, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the message. I have moved this to an AfD discussion. ttonyb (talk) 19:04, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

K.Flay speedy deletion

I noticed the speedy deletion of K.Flay. I supported the original AfD of this article back in 2007. However, it seems like this artist's profile has risen considerably and, IMHO, should meet WP:N. For example, here is a fairly balanced write up that I would guess counts as notable. Did you base your speedy decision solely on the links that had been provided or did you look at and reject some of better sources that can be found? Ronnotel (talk) 20:29, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

My CSD was based on light references and lack of Ghits and GNEWs of substance; however, with the reference you provided and [4], the article would probably survive a new creation. ttonyb (talk) 20:55, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
OK, thanks for the feedback. Ronnotel (talk) 17:51, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
