Jefferson Village is a civic association serving the neighborhoods of City Park and Woodley North in Fairfax County, Virginia. Then name now also refers to the area of these two neighborhoods. It lies within the Census Bureau's CDP of Jefferson, Virginia.

The Name

Although City Park Homes was the name of the development, it was also known as Jefferson Village and is still labeled as such on many maps. Jefferson Village is the name of a shopping strip at northwest corner of Annandale Rd. and Arlington Boulevard (US Route 5). JV Restaurant has been open there since Jefferson Village was also the original name of a town-home apartment development built in the 1950s at the northwest corner of Graham Road and Arlington Boulevard (US Route 50).

In [year], City Homes civic association officially adopted the area of Woodley North, as that area did not have an active civic association, and changed its name to Jefferson Village to reflect this larger area.

History

A few streets and houses in Greenway Downs, which borders to the north, between Jefferson Village and Falls Church City, predated World War II. Arlington Boulevard, which forms the southern border of the neighborhood, was constructed between 1935 and 1939 as a major thoroughfare from Fairfax City to Washington, DC. City Park Homes was developed immediately after World War II, in part through the G.I. Bill as homes for veterans. Jefferson Village Shopping Center was built in [year]; it featured a movie theatre which remained open until [year]. JV Restaurant has been open in the shopping center since 1947; it now features live music and a bar.
