There are 6,721 pages in the book namespace and around 51,627 user books.
The namespace as a whole is currently indexed and offered as an alternative when saving new books from Special:Book,
We have two main support pages with associated subpages, Wikipedia:Books and Help:Books. There is also Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikipedia-Books. Some WikiProjects support books as an assessment category. There is Wikipedia:Proposed deletion (books), Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Wikipedia books and Wikipedia:Buying Wikipedia articles in print or another form as well.
Categorization should be limited to subcats of Category:Wikipedia books and Category:Wikipedia books (tracking and cleanup categories). There is also the emptyish tree Category:WikiProject Wikipedia-Books and Category:Book-Class articles which has tons of empty categories. Also Category:All books proposed for deletion.
There are a handful book related templates, {{Book}}, {{Saved book}}, {{Nav book tool}}, {{PediaPressTicket}}, {{WikiProject Wikipedia-Books}}, {{Book-Class}}, User:WildBot/b01, {{Book-prod}}, {{Book-prod/dated}}, {{BPRODNote}}, {{BPRODWarning}}, {{Pp-book-cover}}, {{Wikipedia books on elements}}, {{book report}} and {{User WP Wikipedia-Books}} should be all.
User:Cyberbot I/Book Reports is currently running.
PediaPress can print Wikipedia books and link to a selection of books in the Book: namespace.
Not all of these will need action but they should probably be considered.

Implementation
[edit]- Move then delete all books and the namespace.
- Make sure Wikipedia:Books, Help:Books and Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikipedia-Books with subpages are up to date.
- Delete {{Wikipedia books on elements}}, {{Book report}}, {{Book-Class}} and User:WildBot/b01 for following deletion of the namespace when they are essentially orphaned following appropriate process.
- C1 Category:Wikipedia books and Category:Wikipedia books (tracking and cleanup categories).
- Optionally deal with the dead WikiProject.
- Go through quarry:query/54292 one final time to remove remaining links.
- Update pages such as WP:NS and Wikipedia:Wikipedia book creator status.
- Contact PediaPress.
