Gene Priest (born Sept. 18th 1981) is an American Singer / Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist most known for his always evolving "solo" project "Gene Priest and The Cardinal Sin" currently signed to Lapdance Academy Records based in Brooklyn, NY. Priest also aside from his solo project currently Sings and plays Drums in Indie-Rock band "Wolf at the Door"[1] with Cardinal Sinner's Brian Woodruff and Derek Jones. He is also known for playing drums in such bands as Cold Hands, My Lost Cause, Hot Blood, and HiLites. He has a drum endorsement with "C & C Custom Drums"[2] as well as a cymbal endorsement with "Saluda Cymbals".
Gene Priest and The Cardinal Sin[edit]
"Gene Priest and The Cardinal Sin"[3] was started originally as a solo project and a way for Priest to get out from behind the Drums and begin a songwriting career of his own. The original concept behind "The Cardinal Sin" was that Priest would be the principal songwriter, writing and recording his solo music and then having a rotating collaboration of close friends and musicians to fill out and complete the sound.
Priest released his first solo EP titled "Living to Die" in 2010 on Lapdance Academy Records.[4] This was his first attempt at his idea for having a broad sound starting with only his acoustic guitar and vocals and allowing close friends and musicians to add to the record "layer by layer" until completion. The record featured Lapdance Academy founder Brian Grosz on Slide Guitar and Wurlitzer, fellow label mate Alex Walker on Guitar, Brian Woodruff on Guitar, Derek Jones on Piano and Vocals, Rachael Gammon on Vocals, Earl Maneein on Violin and Viola, and William Lamb on Drums. The EP began being tracked at Priest's home studio Fake Plastic Studios, after Vocals and Acoustic and initial Electric Guitars were finished, it was shipped over to Brian Grosz at Disgraceland Studios for the addition of even more Guitars, Violin, Viola, Wurlitzer, and back-up vocals done by Grosz. It was then taken to Elk Gang Studios in Knoxville, TN where friend and Sparklehorse drummer Scott Minor tracked drums, and mixed the album. Once Minor had completed the mix it was sent to Casa Nova Studios in Brooklyn, NY and mastered by Tommy Mokas.
