Ghost to Falco is an American musical group based in Portland, OR, and fronted by Eric Crespo. While Crespo is the only constant member of the band, recordings and live performances often feature a rotating cast of collaborators. Ghost to Falco's music draws from a wide range of influences and is often noted as being difficult to categorize [1][2], but it generally combines elements of art rock, lo-fi, psychedelic, noise, post-rock, minimalism, folk, Americana, post-punk, and experimental pop.[3][4]

History[edit]

Ghost to Falco began in 2001 as a solo project that utilized electric guitar loops, analog synthesizer, field recordings and a somber singing style. Though the beginnings of Ghost to Falco can be traced back to Asheville, North Carolina, the first live performance took place in Athens, Georgia as part of a cross country move to Portland, OR. [5]

In Portland, Ghost to Falco was embraced by the underground rock and noise communities that existed at the time, and played alongside notable west coast acts like Yellow Swans, Xiu Xiu, and Deerhoof. Crespo also helped to form the now defunct art punk band, Alarmist, in the spring of 2003, which he played guitar in.

In 2004 Collective Jyrk, a record label run by members of the band Yellow Swans, released a split 7" which included Ghost to Falco and the San Francisco band, The Curtains. In that same year Ghost to Falco released its first full length on CD via the now defunct record label, Colletta Blue. Crespo, embarked on a two month solo U.S. tour following the release of this debut material in spring of 2004.

Ghost to Falco began playing live as a trio, featuring a bass player and drummer, in early 2005, and has performed in various incarnations ever since. This marked a transition to a more rock based approach to songwriting which was evidenced on the next full length release, Like This Forever. This album was praised by local Portland media and by the influential Aquarius Records which described it as, "earthy, psych-tinged music that weaves its way along beautiful shadowy paths through the dewy glimmers and murky sludge." [6]

The third full length, Exotic Believers, furthered the evolution of Ghost to Falco's sound and featured over thirty Portland area musicians, including members of bands like Horse Feathers, AU, Castanets, The Shaky Hands, and Jackie-O Motherfucker.

Ghost to Falco is currently working on finish production on its fourth album.
