Sean Dhondt (Sint-Niklaas, 13 February 1984) is a Belgian musician and presenter. He became known as a singer of the Belgian pop punk group Nailpin and as a video jockey for the youth channels TMF and JIM. Nowadays he is a singer at Manoeuvres and he presents at VTM and Qmusic.
Music
[edit]Sean Dhondt started in 2003 as a drummer at the punk band Nailpin. In 2006 he became the new lead singer of the group after the departure of his predecessor Niko Van Driessche. That year, Nailpin released a second album, of which They Do not Know kicked it into a popular single in the Flemish Ultratop 50. After a third album in 2008 and a tour in 2009, the band gave a break of indefinite duration. A few years later it became clear that there are no plans to restart Nailpin.
The first years after Nailpin remained relatively silent on musical level around Dhondt, except sporadic solo work such as the sermon of the theme song of children's channel vtmKzoom, the theme song of the youth series De 5e boog and the vocals for the single Hold You by Dimaro. In 2014, this changed with the launch of the Manoeuvres group, of which he is again the lead singer..
Television
[edit]TMF
[edit]In 2005, Dhondt was invited for a screen test at youth channel TMF Vlaanderen, after he had been shown with his music group Nailpin in the television program MTV Road Rally. He was recruited there as video jockey and presented the programs Hitzone (a look at the charts from other countries) and Most Played Top 20. He also hosted a number of reality programs, such as Rok 'n Roll.
In 2009 he retired from TMF to transfer to Vlaamse Media Maatschappij, the broadcaster that houses VTM, Qmusic and the then 2BE and JIM.
JIM
[edit]Almost immediately after his farewell with TMF, Dhondt also became VJ at JIM, the then competing youth channel of TMF. For a long time he presented a daily afternoon program at the side of Eline De Munck. He also got his own late night talk show entitled Sean Late Night. In the summer of 2015, he said goodbye to JIM to present Qmusic, a change to a radio station.
VTM/2BE/Q2
[edit]In the spring of 2011 Dhondt was presenter of the 2BE program The Ultimate Dance Battle. Later that year on VTM he became the permanent co-presenter of An Lemmens during the live shows of The Voice of Flanders, a role he also maintained in the 2013 and 2014 editions. In the meantime he was one of the regular reporters of the VTM showbiz magazine Voor de Show from the end of 2011 to the end of 2012, he presented in 2012 a second season of The Ultimate Dancebattle and in 2014 he was one of the regular coaches in the children's talents hunt The Voice Kids . During the summer of 2016, together with Sam De Bruyn, he presented the music festival magazine Festivalitis (which ran the years before at the now discontinued JIM) on 2BE. In the spring of 2017, Dhondt and Rik van de Westelaken presented the seventh season of Peking Express (the Netherlands & Flanders) on Q2.
Dhondt has also been heard on VTM as a sender voice in recent years and is finally the fixed face of the commercials surrounding the digital offering of the sender.
Radio
[edit]At the end of August 2015 Dhondt started on radio station Qmusic with the presentation The BSMNT, an evening program that mainly revolves around alternative music and in which (starting) bands regularly perform. The first season of the program ran until the end of June 2016 and he presented with Marcia Bwarody, from Monday to Thursday between 19.00 and 22.00 hours. The second season was broadcast from the end of August 2016 to the end of June 2017, but only ran on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 22.00 hrs to 1.00 am with Vincent Fierens as Dhondt's new co-presenter. In the autumn of 2017 Dhondt presented his own radio program on Sunday between 22.00 and 0.00 hours. From January 2018 he presented on every working day between 13.00 and 16.00 hours.
