Major Jay D. Kling (November 14, 1828 - February 22, 1908) was a doctor and surgeon who lived in both Plymouth and Monroeville, Ohio. In addition to his professional career, Kling performed distinguished service during the Civil War in connection with the 55th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. During his service, Kling acted as Regimental Surgeon, and at various times also served as Brigade Surgeon of the Third Brigade, Third Division, Eleventh Army Corps, and also for a short time as Acting Division Surgeon of the Third Division, Eleventh Army Corps. Kling was captured by Confederate soliders during his trip home after discharge, and was imprisoned at the infamous Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia.

Born of a well-known and large family of Palatine ancestry in Schoharie County, New York, Kling was a graduate of the Albany Medical College in Albany, New York. After the war and the death of his wife, Kling moved to the former Confederacy, where he married a second time. He died in Atlanta, Georgia.
