Trampoline scoring[edit]
Scoring at trampoline competitions is complex. The basics are described in Olympic Gymnastics: Trampoline Rules & Judging[1]. If less than 5 execution judges are available at an individual competition or less than 4 execution judges at a synchronous competition things are getting even more complicated because then the final scores are often corrected:
Individual competition:
- 5 execution judges: lowest and highest mark are ignored: final execution score is sum of remaining 3 scores
- 4 execution judges: 5th score is computed as average of the 4 judges scores; final execution score is calculated based on the resulting 5 scores
- 3 execution judges: final execution score is sum of the 3 scores plus a correction.
The overall final score is computed as the sum of the execution scores and the difficulty score. In some cases there is a limit to the difficulty score: in that case for a specific level no more than that limit is calculated in the final score.
Possible corrections in case of 3 execution judges are:
- middle score minus the average of the 3 scores is added to every final score
- final score is computed as 3 times the middle score if the difference between the middle score and the other scores is too large
Synchronous competition:
- 4 execution judges: lowest and highest mark are ignored: final score is sum of the remaining execution scores, the difficulty score and synchronous score
- 3 execution judges: fourth score is computed as the average of the other three and the final score is computed as with 4 execution judges
If there are 3 judges for synchronicity the middle score is multiplied by 2 and added to the sum of the execution scores.

Scoring programs that are used by the organisation of trampoline competitions are a.o.:
Visitors of a trampoline competition can use the free Nintendo DS program TeDDyScore to do their own scoring.

TeDDyScore history[edit]
Parents and other visitors of a trampolining competition regularely keep scores with pen and paper to see how their favourite gymnast is doing. Trampoline scoring can be quite complicated: if less than the maximum number of judges are available corrections are made to the final scores. A first attempt was made to keep scores with a spreadsheet on a PDA, but computing the ranking is hard with the limited possibilities of mobile spreadsheet programs. After the observation that there are always many children with a Nintendo DS around at trampolining competitions the idea came up to write a dedicated program for the Nintendo DS. TeDDyScore was born.
Name[edit]
TeDDyScore was named after the initials of the author Theo Deckers and DS for Nintendo DS. The Teddy on the composition splash screen of the program is of Ivan, the son of the author. The background photograph was made during the European Trampoline Championships in Metz, France.
Freeware[edit]
As TeDDyScore is built on PA_lib the program can be downloaded as freeware from Savannah's trampolinesite.
Status[edit]
TeDDyScore is currently beta software (version 0.7.10), but can already be successfully used at trampoline competitions. Updates are published regularely.

Competitor lists of national competitions in the Netherlands and some larger international competitions in Germany (Ostseepokal, Niederrheincup) in TeDDyScore CSV format can be downloaded from Savannah's trampolinesite.
Documentation[edit]
Current documentation and screen language is in Dutch only. TeDDyScore version 0.8.0 that is currently under development (to be released in May 2009) has also English and German screen texts and an English manual translation is planned. A short instruction movie is planned in Dutch, with English subtitles.
Future enhancements[edit]
Currently WiFi support is tested to enable download and upload of score files to a website. This can also be a webserver running on a laptop with a local WiFi access point in a sports hall where a trampoline competition takes place. In that way visitors can connect with TeDDyScore on their Nintendo DS to that WiFi network to see all scores immediately. Also team competition support is planned.
