MECHANISMS AND ROBOTICS AWARD[edit]

(Unit of Award: Design Engineering Division (DED))[edit]

The Mechanisms and Robotics Award is an honor that is given annually by the Mechanisms and Robotics Committee of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, to Engineers known for a lifelong contribution to the field of mechanism design or theory. This prestigious honor can only be given once to any individual.

Established in 1974, this prestige comes in the form of a glass plague, wood plague, or honorarium for the recipient.

Selection Process[edit]

The nomination and selection of the recipient of this honor is as follows: 1)The chair of the subcommittee polls all members of the regular committee two months prior to the Mechanisms and Robotics Conference for recommendations 2)All the names collected by the Chair are then voted on. Members are asked to select their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd preferences and submit them to the chair. 3)The chair and Honors and Awards Subcommittee then tally the points, awarding 3 points for 1st preference, 2 points for 2nd and 1 point for 3rd. 4)The individual with the highest tally receives the award 5)In the event of a tie another vote is required of the regular committee asking members to break the tie.

Organization[edit]

There is an Honors and Awards Committee that functions in the recipient selection process and an Honors and Awards Subcommittee that administrates the award. The Chair of the Honors and Awards Subcommittee overlooks the entire process.
