It was published between 1922 and 1939, and depicts the combat history, organizational history and political history of the French Army between 1914 and 1919. It contains several annex volumes with numerous facsimile documents.

History

[edit]

The armies of France were engaged in World War I from 1914 to 1918, fighting mainly on the Western Front and contributing contingents to the Italian front, Macedonian front and to the Gallipoli campaign.

After the war, the various nations began publishing their official war histories.[1] The AFGG series was published between 1922 and 1939 in 107 volumes, which were grouped into eleven "tomes". Each tomes contains main volumes, annex volumes and map collections. The annex volumes contain primary documents, with a focus on communication and directives within the French army or inter-Allied communication and dispatches.[2] The tomes are given Roman numerals, whereas the volumes within tomes are given Latin numerals.[3]
