Renewable Energy Systems (RES) is a renewable energy company, and is part of the Sir Robert McAlpine group The RES Group specialises in medium to large scale wind energy and is now also providing building-integrated renewable energy systems through its RES Heat and Power subsidiary. The technologies include:

Partnership[edit]

RES Heat and Power is backing and has invested in each of the UK’s leading renewable energy technology companies. Through its partnership, RES can offer a range of technologies to meet any needs. They can be purchased individually or as multi-technology packages.

Ground Source Heating

EarthEnergy specialises in the design and installation of ground source heat pump systems to provide heating and cooling in buildings. They bring more than thirty years’ experience and have provided ground source heat pump systems for over 1,000 buildings across the UK.

Wood Energy supplies wood-fired boiler systems in the UK and Ireland, providing over a third of total wood heating capacity and saving almost 12,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year through its boiler installations. In total, Wood Energy has installed over 25,000kW of boiler capacity.

PV Systems specialises in the manufacture and installation of solar photovoltaics (PV) units. PV Systems has been supplying and installing bespoke photovoltaic systems since 1995, to date PV Systems have over 800 systems installed across the UK. The company’s systems are widely adaptable and can interface with many standard roof coverings including slates, tiles, roof-lights, patent glazing, and can also be used with curtain walls and atria.

Biomass fuel supply RES can enter into long-term biomass fuel supply contracts with both producers and consumers, to provide reliable, sustainable and carbon-neutral fuel sources, with the security of a managed, nationwide, quality assured supply network.

Biomass Energy

Heat supply (ESCo)

RES can provide a comprehensive heating and cooling service where RES finances, fuels and maintains the generation system. Heat meters are used to measure the amount of energy supplied to the premises, and demand is then billed on the basis of monthly meter readings. All the necessary equipment can be installed, owned and operated by RES.

Membership and awards[edit]

The RES Group won the top award in the 2004 national Business Commitment to the Environment Awards and, in April 2005, won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the Sustainable Development category.

RES takes an active role in several industry bodies to bring its perspective to relevant policy groups. The company participates in the Renewable Energy Association, the British Wind Energy Association, the European, American, Irish, Australian and New Zealand Wind Energy Associations, the Scottish Renewables Forum, the Industry & Power Association, the Global Wind Energy Council, and PRASEG. The Sir Robert McAlpine company is a founding member of the Green Building Council and a member of the London Climate Change Agency.
