In October 2008, a university professor suggested that correct spelling wasn't necessary, and that people should be free to use variations.

Well, has a lot of redundancy, and significant misspellings can be tolerated up to a point. However, the amount of redundancy varies, and you could get into trouble if you are unwary.

Consider A=betwen, B=between, C=betweeen, D=btween, E= btwen and F=bedween. The writer can think of no other word that A-E could be mistaken for, though F=bedween might cause the reader to pause and think of bedridden.

Attention to detale[edit]

A young lass wrote on her CV "I pay attention to detale", proving in an instant that she does not. It is interesting to examine in detail the frequency of several related words.
