From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi Syjytg. This is where we will communicate during the course of our adoption. First off, what kinds of articles are you interested in writing? I see you're a soccer and basketball fan. Sports articles are really fun to write IMO (as you can see, the only articles i've gotten above stub class are baseball related). Also, if so, what kind of maintenance work are you interested in? Also, I'd advise not thinking too much about becoming an administrator, trust me. Last year, I was practically obsessed with it, and people don't like it and become a lot less likely to support in the future if you obsess over it. Now, I don't worry about it much anymore. I know that the time will come one day, and it's best not to rush.

I basically love sports and reality TV. I have asked SuggesBot to suggest but I am still waiting for suggestions. I have edited mainly on soccer articles like FA Cup 2009 and EPL 2008-2009. I have recently made edits to 2008-09 NBA season as well. I plan on editing articles on reality TV like Survivor, The Amazing Race, American Idol etc. as well. As an aside, did you manage to become an admin in the end? By the way, can you teach me commands slowly day by day starting with the basics, then slowly progressing to the more advanced ones? Syjytg (talk) 16:11, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Oh yay!!!!!! :D I love the same shows you do! I think that you can do a lot of work on reality articles. There is a lot of unsourced information that is sometimes added, and I usually try to keep the articles clean by reverting unsourced information. No, I did not become an admin. I probably won't for a long time because I made some actions and said some things that I really regret. I'm afraid that advanced WikiMarkup isn't really my thing. However, you can feel free to talk to my friends Neurolysis or iMatthew, they are very good at wikimarkup.

Can you help me invite your friends that can help me to this page? By the way, their Usernames are familiar to me. User:Neurolysis had talked to me before and I have seen User:iMatthew's RfAs. By the way, are wikimarkup related to commands? Syjytg (talk) 16:24, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

I've been talking to them on IRC, and they think it'd be fine if you asked them for help. However, I don't think that they have enough time to actually adopt you. WP:MARKUP, I think that's what you mean by commands. Also, if you're looking for help on tables, Help:Table.

Wow, they are so numerous and complicated. I wonder how to master it. Syjytg (talk) 16:53, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

So you don't have a great grasp of WikiMarkup, eh? Well, take a gander through here and see if that helps. :) —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 16:57, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Bad Ed! Stealing my adoptee :P Sam Blab 16:59, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

I would like to start a vote on whether certain content should be included in a certain article(ie I dont want to engage in an edit war), how do I do it?(I mean what command to use?) Syjytg (talk) 10:47, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

You should go on the talk page of the article. Probably a discussion would work better, since Meta:Polling is evil. Dscussions tend to be more constructive.

I suggest you go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:FA_Cup_2008%E2%80%9309 and look under the heading total attendaces for each round? They basically reverted my edits without a clear consensus. This is why I want to do a vote. Only if there is really a numerical majority against me, then I will agree that my edit be reverted. Syjytg (talk) 16:07, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

It looks like the consensus is against it. I'm afraid there's not much that can be done. WP:CONSENSUS might be a good read.

There is a anon vandalizing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FA_Cup_2008%E2%80%9309, perharps you can help? Syjytg (talk) 16:18, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

This might be of some help. BTW, no need to notify me every timr you post a question. I have this page watchlisted. :) Sam Blab 16:40, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Can I warn an anon? Does an anion has a talkpage? Syjytg (talk) 16:44, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Of course. If someone vandalizes, you definitely warn them. And every user has a talk page. By the way, they haven't been warned since October. I don't think that they need a final warning right off the bat. ;)

Maybe he had been blocked before and the block was just lifted.(I dont know about that, this is just a guess.) But he has been warned many times and his purpose was obviously to vandalize articles. Syjytg (talk) 16:57, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Please remember to WP:AGF. If they haven't vandalized in 4 months, it's not a good thing to slap them with a final warning. I know that Frank had to talk to you, and he's a very respected user in my book, so I think that he was right. Next time, probably just give a level 2 warning.

I would add that you should not assume a user had previously been blocked; that is assuming bad faith, the exact opposite of what we strive for around here. And, in fact, the IP address has never been blocked, which you can find out by clicking the "block log" link on the user's contributions page. That doesn't mean the person who made those edits has never been blocked, but it's important to understand that it's an IP address, which may in fact have multiple users. Often, anonymous users who make small vandalism edits such as that one are kids in school who are just playing around. They're not going to destroy the encyclopedia with three edits, and they aren't going to be blocked for those minor vandalism edits without proper warnings. So it's best to send a warning and move along. Most people find their time around here much more rewarding when they build content rather than chase vandals.  Frank  |  talk  17:38, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

Why cant I edit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Idol_(season_8)? I know it is semi-protected but I thought only anons cannot edit semi-protected articles? I am logged in so why can't I edit? Syjytg (talk) 05:34, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Hmm. You seem to be over the obligatory limits. I honestly don't know. On another note, if you want to link to an article, there's an easier way than copy-pasting the URL. You can just make two brackets ([[like this]]), and the link to the article will come up. For example, American Idol (season 8). Sorry I haven't been able to reply to your comments, I was on vacation in New York City. :)

Noticed that we haven't chat for a long time. Syjytg (talk) 11:36, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Yes, it seems like you've been doing a bit of learning on your own. This kind of thing is good, since you can't stay adopted forever. :P

How come sometimes when I click edit, some content is not there? May I know where is the place to edit? Syjytg (talk) 12:54, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

I don't know what you mean. Is this the "edit this page" link or a "edit" link for editing a section?

For example, at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008-09_NBA_season#Standings, when you click edit, where are the values for the table? How do I edit the values in the table? Syjytg (talk) 13:01, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Oh, that's because that standings are transcluded from their own template. To edit them, you'll have to type in the search bar "Template:Whatever the name of the template that you want to edit is". :)

Thanks for adopting me. Unfortunately, I have decided to quit Wikipedia for good. This is because the admins have a personal vendetta against me and the users here don't appreciate my edits at all. In fact, at least 95% of my edits are reverted or modified. My edits are always accurate and people will say it is not accurate and say I vandalize while the fact is the person reverting to his own version is less accurate than my version. I have my reasons for keeping certain things in a certain format but nobody appreciates it. I won't edit Wikipedia anymore. If people want to make a certain article inaccurate in some way, I dont care anymore. The only place I will edit is this page, User:Syjytg and the Usertalk of Syjytg as those pages are mine. But we can still talk. I will still talk to you here. Even though I won't edit articles anymore, I will still read articles if I need them for my studies. Cheers!
