All About Us (AAU) is a series of novels written by Maryam Wells and published by Hyperion. Many of the novels were ghostwritten, including 43 by Peter Lerangis. However, Maryam Wells wrote the first 35 novels.

The series focues on the development of four teenage girls who live and attend high school in the fictional town of Silver Hills, California. In the series, the girls' divergent talents, perspectives, and family experiences become the platform for illustrating alternative approaches to understanding and solving problems.

The series quickly gained popularity and spawned several spin-off series, including Sierra & Kristy and Nikki in the City. The novels All About Us: 30 & Hot and The Haines Family, which follow the characters as adults.


History of the series[edit]

All About Us was a Saturday-Morning teen sitcom for Teen NBC. It staarred Alecia Elliot, a real-life singer who was seen on Malibu, Ca; Marieh Delfino; Crystal Grant, who's brother was on Save by the Bell: The New Class, season 3; and Alicia Lagano. But the series was cancelled after one season. Eleven years later, Maryam Wells, who took the general idea of a All About Us, and revamped the characters, plots, and settings for the series. It was initially planned as a four-book series, but after the first four novels were moderately successful, Hyperion ordered two more, followed by twelve more as the series grew in popularity. The novels dealt with serious topics with the coming of age issues: bullying, parents' divorce, drug addiction, underage drinking, eating disorders, homosexuality, peer-pressure, infidelity, and cancer.


Structure of the novels[edit]

With the exception of Super Specials and Super Mysteries, the novels are written and narrated from one character's point of view.[4] The novels generally follow this format:

Chapter 1: Introduction to self; Beginning of plot (sometimes describing club and members, too) Chapter 2: Description of club and members.


Main Characters[edit]

Alicia Alcott [edit]

  • Appearance: longish brown hair usually worn in a ponytail, blue/brown eyes and stylish & urban clothing
  • Birthday: August 20

Alicia is known for her great outfits, as well as her musical talents. Alicia is biracial and proud of it. Her mother is white and her father is black. She has an older brother, Trent and a little sister, Brittany. As a 'urban teenager', Alicia wears colorful or vibrant outfits. In the beginning, Alicia has super curly hair, but in her junior and senior year, she had straight hair.

Nikki Merrick [edit]

  • Appearance: blonde hair usually curled into a perm, large blue eyes, 5'6 and lean, stylish & fashion forward
  • Birthday: April 3

As the weaalthy girl in Silver Hills, Nikki was the most popular girl in school. She waas good friends with Alicia because of their shared love for fashion and boys. They are known to be the best dressers at Silver Hills High School (Nikki is the more sophisticated dresser, while Alicia is more creative and original).

Sierra Jennings [edit]

  • Appearance: Long chestnut-brown hair, hazel eyes, California casual style, preppy & sophisticated
  • Birthday: February 5

Sierra is the third daughter of Silver Hills' divorced couple. Sierra is a vegetarian, addicted to health food (she can't stand sugary snacks), a real individual and is interested in environmentalism. She

Kristy Castelli [edit]

  • Appearance: longish brown hair usually worn in a ponytail, brown eyes and usual clothing is jeans, a turtleneck, a sweater, and converse
  • Birthday: August 20

Kristy is the tomboy of the group


Silver Hills[edit]

Silver Hills is a fictional suburban town in the state of California. It is the hometown of many of the characters in both All About Us series and the Sierra & Kristy series as well. The town is assumed to be near Los Angeles, California. Several adults in the town commute to L.A. , and Alicia Alcott moved to L.A. to audition for Dance Revolution.

Silver Hills' public schools include Silver Hills Elementary, Silver Hills Middle School, Kelton Middle School, and Silver Hills High School.
