My background I am a speaker, consultant and author working with small companies on human resource management, business operations and workplace culture improvement. I work extensively with nonprofit organizations on a range of projects. My articles provide commentary and "how to" information for small business owners and nonprofit organizations. Projects have included strategic planning, financial planning, efficiency assessments, and quality assurance. I have participated in ten nonprofit turnaround projects in which the nonprofit was in some type of trouble (financial or human resources) and the executive director has been removed. These projects include stabilizing cash flow, vendor communication, board training and orientation, financial statements, programming personnel evaluations and community relations.

I have a master's degree in clinical social work and work part time in a hospital emergency room assessing patients presenting with psychiatric symptoms. I hold clinical licenses in Maine and South Carolina.

I lost my brother to suicide in 1999 and after a long recovery period began volunteering to help other survivors. I was a founding board member of the Maine Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and served for ten years. Eventually, I developed a training program for bereavement counselors in the special grieving needs of suicide survivors (those who have lost a loved-one to suicide).

In 2009 I furthered my business education by taking a Human Resource Management certification prep course and achieved an Senior Professional Human Resources (SPHR) certification in May of that year.

I am an avid gardener with extensive woodland gardens in a suburban community in Maine.
