War of the Triple Alliance (commonly abbreviated WotTA) is a Latin American non-commercial fan-based modification for the RTS game Age of Empires III by Ensemble Studios, and its expansion packs. It focuses on Latin America, spanning from the 19th century to the World War I era. Being based upon the war of the same name, the mod introduces the civilizations of Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Colombia, and the aboriginal Tupi, as well as making changes to the older civilizations of the game. New random maps, gameplay elements, cultures, and user interfaces are included as well. The game's latest version is Beta 0.82 for The Asian Dynasties.[1]

Origin[edit]

The mod originated when its founder decided to make a modification for the RTS game Rise of Nations. However, following the release of Age of Empires III, the mod was brought to a new game, and WotTA was born. The mod began by introducing Brazil, but Paraguay was soon introduced and both expansion packs enabled the mod to eventually expand to its present size.

Features[edit]

Civilizations[edit]

The mod currently contains five main civilizations:

Civilization Description
Brazilians Brazilians are farming-oriented and have easy access to plantations and mills. They have a weaker explorer, the bandeirante, but they can send many more from the Home City. Their villager is the African Slave, who can be trained by using food, or bought in masses by spending coin.
Argentines Argentine explorer and villagers are mounted, so they move much faster than usual. They are greatly focused on herding and cavalry, and have many bonuses and cards that benefit this. They have an unique waggon that can quickly transport infantry. Their livestock animals will spawn other animals after some time.
Paraguayans They gather resources from factory-like artisan houses called "Works". Such buildings can only be built by a single unit, the master engineer, who must be protected at all costs. The Paraguayans also have heavily armed villagers, the villeros, and one of the strongest artillery in the game, the Cañón Dorado.
Colombians The Colombians don't gather food. Instead, this resource is produced automatically depending on the size of your army. Their buildings spawn guerrilla units when destroyed. They have the only houses that can be built outside the Town Center radius. Instead of an explorer, they play with Simon Bolivar himself, the strongest hero of the game.
Tupi The Tupi have cheap, weak and fast-to-build buildings, granting them the unique ability of rebuilding their whole base in a matter of minutes. Most of their units are ranged. Their Big Button techs are doubled. When attacking the enemy, they have a chance of turning them into prisoners of war, who can be sacrificed. They don't know the value of gold, so they simply don't gather it.

The team is still accepting suggestions for new civilizations to be added.
