User:StijnVDR/Allan Thompson (Tintin character)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Allan Thompson is a villain in the comics of The Adventures of Tintin from the Belgian artist Hergé (1907-1983). His original French name is also Allan Thompson.

His Debut was in The Crab with the Golden Claws (1940). Here he is the navigator of the ship the Karaboudjan, or the second man on the ship after Captain Haddock, Who in this comic also has his first appearance. By continuously feeding Haddock whisky until he is drunk, Allan has the command over the ship. Hergé added his character in the second coloured version of the Cigars of the Pharaoh. Chronologically this album comes before The Crab with the Golden Claws. By Allans earlier introduction, it is easier for the reader to know that Allan has ties with Roberto Rastapopoulos, the leader of multiple criminal gangs. In both comics mentioned above, Allan smuggles opium.

Allan appears again in The Red Sea Sharks (1958), where he is actively smuggling again, now from the African slaves (in order of Rastapopoulos, which in this story masquerades as marquis Di Gorgonzola). Eventually, he appears in Flight 714 to Sydney (1968), where he works together with Rastapopoulosto kidnap Laszlo Carreidas. The plan fails, and Allan loses all of his teeth in a skirmish with the Sondonesians (recruited natives). At the end of the story, Allan Thompson and Rastapopoulos with their remaining accomplices get abducted by aliens to an unknown location.

In the English version, Hergé calls him by his first name, so there is no confusion with the two detectives Thomson and Thompson.
