From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ford 427 is a concept car that was designed by Ford Motor Company. It was originally shown at the 2003 North American International Auto Show. The 427 (the cubic-inch displacement of its engine) was considered a new look into the design of the full-size, rear-wheel drive sedan.

Design[edit]

The inspiration from the shape for the 427 stems from a 2002 interview given by Ford Design Director J Mays. In the interview, he commented that there was a "need" for a “broad shouldered sedan that was unmistakably American, but borrowed its tailoring and craftsmanship from European luxury models.”[1] For the 2003 show, Ford avoided an overtly retro influence, but paid homage to the straight-lined designs of its mid-1960s full-size models. Like its predecessors, the 427 was given a long hood and a short deck.
