Profile[edit]

Mirametrix Research is a privately held company based in Vancouver, B.C. that develops eye tracking hardware and software systems for market research, usability analysis and academic research applications[1][2]. The products are sold directly to clients worldwide.

History[edit]

Mirametrix is a spin-off from the University of British Columbia with initial funding from the National Research Council of Canada[3]. Their initial focus was on providing eye-tracking solutions for gaze controlled applications in association with the ALS Society of British Columbia Engineering Design Competition. Notable applications include on-screen gaze-based typing and a gaze-controlled motorized neck brace[4][5].

Open standard interface[edit]

Mirametrix has developed an open standard interface for eye tracking systems[6] which is increasingly being used to develop gaze-aware applications. The interface uses only the open standards TCP/IP and XML with the goal of increasing the number of independently developed gaze-aware application by decreasing the risk associated with developing software for a single eye tracking hardware manufacturer. An example application where the eye-gaze interface has been used in Brain-computer interface research.[7].
