UiPath is a is a company developing robotic process automation (RPA) and application integration software. The company has offices in San Francisco, London, Bucharest and Bangalore.[1][2][3]
History
[edit]Daniel Dines, UiPath’s founder and CEO started the company in 2005[4] with a focus on screen scraping and web scraping technology. This technology evolved into the current product that lets companies automate business processes that need repetitive human intervention. Back office activities like accounts payable or claims processing are among such activities that are prone to automation with RPA software.
UiPath software can be used to extract data from Windows desktop or web-based applications or with applications delivered through desktop virtualization (such as Citrix). The software robots mimic human actions on screen and can be trained to access and use different applications such as CRM, ERP or BPMS.[5][6]
Over the years, the company has partnered and collaborated with companies like NIIT Technologies, Capgemini & Cognizant.[1][7][8]
Technology
[edit]UiPath uses a proprietary SDK to operate the user interface as a human would. Software robots see UI fields contextually, linked to their meaning, automatically adjusting to unpredictable shifts in UI field position, like when an input field on the right of the label moves below that label.[9]
The software robots run on desktops or virtual desktops and can be controlled either by a human operator who decides when to start them or by a server that decides when to run them or how many robots to allocate to the completion of a task. UiPath’s server software was built on Microsoft cloud technologies that are available on premises, on cloud or in a hybrid on premises/cloud environment. It scales both on premises or on cloud and is offered in a PAAS manner allowing elastic scalability without managing individual nodes in both AWS and Azure public and private clouds.[9] The business processes need to be mapped before being automated. UiPath mapping tool is based on Microsoft’s Windows Workflow Foundation architecture and designer.[9]
