Her work has been published in popular newspapers such as the National Post, The Globe and Mail, The Huffington Post ^[2], the Toronto Star and Indian Country Today Media Network.

Personal Life[edit]

Chelsea is a Metis woman, born in the Plains Cree community of Lac Ste. Anne, Alberta, Canada in 1978. Her hobbies include writing and songwriting in the Plains Cree Language, and Roller derby. She is a mother to two daughters and a stepmother to two more.

Career[edit]

Vowel holds a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta. She currently lives in Montreal, Quebec teaching Inuit youth under protection.

Chelsea uses the name âpihtawikosisân for her website ^[3], twitter page ^[4] and online persona. This alias is a Plains Cree word meaning half-son, which is used to refer to the Metis who are of mixed European and First Nations descent. She identifies herself as writing from a Metis perspective with the goal of accurately representing her people.

Politics[edit]

Chelsea is an activist primarily concerned with Indigenous rights , including the Idle No More movement.^[5]. She is known for her opposition toward the use of Indian headdresses by non-indigenous people ^[6], and her support of a national inquiry into the cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women, in Canada, such as those occurring on the Highway of Tears.
