Smangaliso Minenhle Mhlungu was born and raised in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal. He grew up listening to Maskandi, Afro Pop, Hip hop, Gospel and Isichathamiya music, influenced by Zulu Messengers, Mfez'emnyama, Khuzani, Sjava, Lindani Gumede, Kelly Khumalo, Emtee and Mnqobi Yazo.
