Sam Malek is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) within the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences (ICS).[1][2] He is also the Director of the Institute for Software Research.[3] Prior to joining UCI, he was on the faculty of the Computer Science Department at George Mason University (GMU).[4]

Malek's general research interests are in the field of software engineering. He is known for his contributions to Software Architecture, Mobile Computing, Software Security, Software Testing, and Program Analysis.[5]

Malek received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Southern California in 2007 and his B.S. degree in Information and Computer Science from the University of California, Irvine in 2000.[6] He has received numerous awards for his research contributions, including the National Science Foundation CAREER award (2013), George Mason University Emerging Researcher/Scholar/Creator award (2013), and George Mason University Computer Science Department Outstanding Faculty Research Award (2011).[7]

Malek has been on the editorial board of the IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology, ACM Transactions on Autonomous and Adaptive Systems, and Springer Journal of Computing.[8][9][10]

Malek is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), ACM Special Interest Group on Software Engineering (SIGSOFT), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
