America Singer is a fictional character and the protagonist of The Selection series by Kiera Cass. In this novel, America expresses and shows multiple different personality traits and characteristics such as; friendliness, truthfulness, shyness, stubbornness, etc. When interacting with the different characters in the novel, America demonstrates her different traits making her personality in-depth and layered.
Throughout the book, America goes through an emotional roller coaster where she experiments with the extents and limits of love. As the protagonist, she has a large role in keeping the story together, whether she's part of the conflict of others or on her own. America grows emotionally from the beginning of the book to the end. At the onset, the only thing on America's mind was being with Aspen; not caring about her family or anything in the world her priority was only being with Aspen. However, when the Selection letter arrived, America had to face her first important life decision. She had to consider all scenarios, options and opportunities before her decision was clear. Through this process, she realized that there was more to life than just her boyfriend; there's family, jobs, money, etc.
After America was heartbroken by Aspen, she learned that in order to continue and be strong again, she would have to open up and let herself be vulnerable. This led to her falling in love with prince Maxon. However, when Aspen showed up at the castle, she discovered that with every decision she made, new ones arose.
Overall, America has grown from a deviant teenager to a proper adult throughout the book. She has become a more intelligent, stronger person that will be a beautiful queen someday.
