Bengali / Bangla language did not have its own Email system where a user can read and write Bangla/Bengali email. Although Email system has been developed for many languages, but not for Bangla / Bengali. Bengali users had to write emails in English or use a Bangla keyboard emulation software to type in Bangla. But in the later case, most often the email would be distorted.
Desktop email clients would sometimes be able to render the Bangla fonts properly but most often would fail. Even to this day Java based desktop client Mozilla Thunderbird does not render Bangla / Bengali fonts properly.
Other desktop mail clients sometimes require considerable user experience to install Bangla Font and Keyboard Interface. Even then if the recieving end does not have Bangla Font Installed then all they see is a completely unreadable email.
EmailBangla - The First Unicode Bangla / Bengali Email System[edit]
www.emailbangla.com is the first to bring a free Bangla / Bengali Email system, where the user does not need to buy or install a specialized software to send and recieve Bangla / Bengali Email. It is a free service and web based. EmailBangla does not require for the user to install any specialized software to read and write Bangla / Bengali Email. It supports many popular browsers starting from: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera_(web_browser), Google Chrome etc. The user can send Bengali email to yahoo, gmail or any other email client from his/her [email protected] account.
The entire email interface is translated into Bangla / Bengali. For example: the English terms like "Inbox", "Draft", "Unread" etc. has been translated into Bangla. In addition the Bangla typing is enabled by Phonetic Unicode script, a big contribution of Hasin Hayder The user can switch between Bangla typing mode and English typing mode by pressing Ctrl+k.
EmailBangla uses Phonetic Bangla typing method. Just by typing mukhosh it becomes Bangla মুখোশ
