From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi.

Singularity on Wikipedia[edit]

My account was created on August 7, 2006, but didn't make my first edit until the 25th. I'm not a true believer in milestones; they're not that important to me and I won't use them. For four months since, I've worked in various areas of Wikipedia, from stubsensor to AfD's to article writing (which isn't my top-notch specialty). I also went on a greeting spree for 200 users (which wasn't very productive at all) in mid-December.

In the 6th of January, I applied for an editor review. I recieved good advice on what to improve on. From then until March, I became addicted to a game, namely Ouverture Facile (easy opening in French); that would explain the rather low edit count for those months.

After my interests left the game, I came back. In the month of April, I began contributing heavily in almost all areas of Wikipedia. On the 22nd of the same month, I again applied for a second editor review. A week later, I applied for adminship and successfully passed.

Since then, I have been working on the administrative fields. I especially like to close AfD's. Recently, I have participated in writing for the Signpost.

WikiPhilosophy[edit]

A collection of my personal thoughts on Wikipedia, as well as what I am as a Wikipedian.
  1. Many people think Wikipedia is a social networking site, like MySpace. That's exactly what we're not.
  2. With that being said, people also tend to forget that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and users are merely editors of it. Although Wikipedia is different from most encyclopedias, the goal is to be a source of reliable sources (and with that, be verifiable) of notable information.
  3. Don't post information about yourself or your band on Wikipedia. There are so many autobios and information on bands that get deleted because they aren't notable and/or they present a conflict of interest. Don't use Wikipedia as a promotional medium (and I can't emphasize this enough). Wikipedia won't make you or your band any more famous, and it's more likely that your article will be deleted. If you are notable enough, someone else will write an article on you or your band.
  4. I am neither an inclusionist, nor I am a deletionist. I delete whatever should be deleted and I keep what should be kept. I follow community consensus.
  5. Sometimes, I have to agree with this.
  6. From a particular RfA: Sometimes I think projectspace users are too under-rated. Writing an encyclopedia is important, but not everyone enjoys or is good at doing so. Projectspace users are the backbone of this project, and keep the Wiki standing up.
  7. Again, from the same RfA: I completely diregard edit count as well. Experience and understanding of policy is more important...
  8. Don't mention anything outside of the Wiki that you can't verify to strengthen your argument. Which means, credentials. We can't verify what you do, or your experience in that subject.
  9. As a closer of hundreds of AfD's, I agree with this philosophy, provided that the nomination wasn't made the same day the article was created.
