Circus Swing is a musical Genre that fuses Swing Jazz, Eastern European Folk and English Folk. By fusing these genres and using the horn, wind and percussive instruments, one is often reminded of an old fashioned circus. It is no doubt linked to the gypsy music scene, but brings in too many other influences to be able to attribute it to this genre.

Since the economic downturn and the many natural disasters, the popularity of the movement of Circus Swing has proliferated. Just as these events affect people with a vigour, so does Circus Swing entertain with an outrageous intensity. It is extremely popular in Europe and has been spreading it's way around bubbling in the underground waiting to explode at many of the festivals in the UK and Europe.

Most early Circus Swing tunes were of a very underground nature and certainly the bands that made them would also write an eclectic style of other tunes.

Since around 2009 there have been emerging artists that have encapsulated this genre and made it necessary to label it. These include Caro Emerald, The Destroyers, and Gabby Young & Other Animals who are the band that have been attributed to coining the term 'Circus Swing'.

The revival of the circus in the naughties has given rise to this musical genre. With prominent nights in large venues across London and other major cities, including Cirque de Soleil, La Soiree, Wam Bam and Dr. Clive's Circus. With these the genre has no doubt grown.

The stage shows are often flamboyant involving large bands, with the circus holding sartorial influences.

Since 2008, Gabby Young & Other Animals have been promoting the genre of Circus Swing playing shows across USA, Europe, Australia and Japan. Being played by Djs such as Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music. It is since then that the genre has grown considerably and now incorporates Boutique Circus' as well as many bands and their music. With artists recently such as Caro Emerald selling out Shepherd's Bush Empire and having mainstream radio hits on BBC Radio 2 as well.

The companies and nights within the music industry that are relevant to the growth of Circus Swing are Chai Wallah/Diplomats of Sound, Gift of the Gab Records, Monumental Management Ltd, and White Mischief.
