BJDs are produced by anything from single-person outfits on a hobby level, to incorporated multinationals. A few artists in USA and Australia produce and sell their own dolls. In Asia there is a wide variety of companies producing BJDs. The BJD Orbyrarium book lists 49 different BJD companies^[1] and one fan-run BJD database includes 125 companies as of February 2009.^[2] A few of the most notable BJD lines and companies can be found below.

In Japan the market is largely dominated by Volks and Super Dollfie. In Korea the market is more diverse, while the Chinese market is still growing.

Arte Tokio Sidhe dolls are 50cm tall silicone dolls, with an internal skeleton, similar to the construction of RealDolls, but the Sidhe is not a sex doll.^[14]

Paper Moon dolls^[15] are five feet tall life-size dolls cast in resin. They have pronounced anime features, and have specially constructed joints that are superficially similar in appearance to ball and socket joints. But due to the inherent difficultiy in stringing such a large doll with elastic, internally the joints are hinged. Unlike many other lifesize dolls, Paper Moon dolls are not sex dolls.
