David Holm
Professor David Holm had been interested in Daoism and Sinology (Chinese Studies) as a student. He got his master degree in Classics and Modern Chinese Studies at the University of Glasgow, earned his doctorate at Oxford University. Before going to Taiwan, where he now lives, Holm was the professor of Chinese and head of Chinese Studies in the University of Melbourne. His research on Tai (a language spoken by the Zhuang people) and Zhuang texts, his studies in ritual, theater and folklore, and his investigations on minority languages and scripts were praised internationally. Holm's recent publication related to Zhuang includes Killing a Buffalo for the Ancestors: A Zhuang Cosmological Text from Southwest China (2003), Recalling Lost Souls: The Baeu Rodo Scriptures, Tai Cosmogonic Texts from Guangxi in Southern China (2004) and Mapping the Old Zhuang Character Script: A Vernacular Writing System from Southern China (2012).
