V.J. Government High School (Bengali: ভি,জে, সরকারি উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়) is an educational institution situated at Chuadanga Sadar Upazila, Chuadanga, Bangladesh. The school was established in 1880. It is located just beside the Mathabhanga River. This School is also known as Chuadanga Zilla School. The academic activities of this school start from 3rd grade to 10th grade. The EIIN number of this school is 115349. The full name of this school is Victoria Jubilee Government High School.

Though it is a boy's school, it has male and female teachers. The school has one Headmaster and one assistant headmaster. It has separate groups of teachers for the morning and day shifts. The school has two playgrounds ( one is inside and one is outside school), six buildings, one auditorium, one hostel, one library and a mosque. Students can borrow books and read books. It has a computer laboratory, two permanent multimedia class rooms and three individual laboratories for physics, chemistry and biology. This school has a big ground where students do their assembly and participate in various sports at the tiffin period and after school. There is a cycle garage. There is a Shaheed Minar (শহীদ মিনার) on one side of the playground.

History

V.J. Government High School is the oldest High school in the Chuadanga district of Bangladesh. The school was established in 1880 by the late Abul Hossain Joarder. He is the founding headmaster of this school. Later, Babu Manmathanath Gui took over as the headmaster of the school and played an important role in the development of the school. On February 16, 1887, on the occasion of the silver jubilee of the then Queen Victoria rule of England, the school was named Victoria Jubilee High School, which is briefly V.J. High School. A V.J. High School was also established in Mumbai, India on the same occasion. The school first started in a tin house, but in 1928 a building was built in place of the tin house. On 1 February 1970 the school became a government school. The active participation of the students of this school in the language movement of 1952 and the war of independence of 1971 has further enriched the history of Chuadanga district.

Admission

It is a Bengali medium school. Admission is arranged in class three once a year. Admission into the school is competitive. After an initial screening, more than 5000 applicants are offered to appear in an admission test for 240 seats only. Coaching centers are also been established in Chuadanga for the preparation of the admission test.

Shifts

It provides education from class Three to Ten. It has two shifts - morning and day. The morning shift starts at 7:30 am and ends at 12:00 am. And the day shift starts at 12:30 pm and ends at 4:50 pm. This only applies from class 6 to 10. From class 3 to 5 time slot is lesser than above for both shifts. Each shift has a 30 minutes tiffin break after the 3rd period.

Uniform

Morning Shift: White shirts and Navy blue pants. A White background school badge has to be stitched on the shirt pocket.

Day Shift: White shirts and Navy blue pants. A White background school badge has to be stitched on the shirt pocket. The collar of the shirt should be Navy blue color.

Note: All students have to wear white socks and shoes and they also have to hang their id card given by the school around their neck. A Navy blue sweater can be worn during winter.
