Upananda is a comical character in the Mūlasarvāstivāda-vinaya and in the Dabbhapuppha and Samudda Jātaka. Upananda is part of the group-of-six and knows how to quote scripture to game the system. The inconsistency between his words and actions create a comical effect. [1]. He is known for his penchant for robes, food, and money. At the time of his death he had amassed a considerable estate [2]
