AP.9 is an American rapper. He was born in Oakland, California, and besides releasing a multitude of solo albums since 2001, is one of the original members of the seven-member rap group Mob Figaz.[1]

History

[edit]

Early life

[edit]

Huddleston is a native to Oakland, California in the Bay Area. From an early age, he experienced street violence and the murder of several family members.[2]

Rapping career

[edit]

Mob Figaz, a hip hop group from the Bay Area, California, was originally formed by C-Bo. The other original members include The Jacka, Husalah, Rydah J. Klyde, Fed-X from Pittsburg, California, and AP.9. Their first album from 1999, C-Bo's Mob Figaz, reached #63 on Billboard's Top R&B Albums chart.[3] Outside of Mob Figaz, AP.9 has collaborated with all the former members on various studio albums and in live performances.

While still performing with Mob Figaz, AP.9 began releasing a steady stream of solo albums in 2001, starting with Headshotz (which included contributions from Oakland rapper Yukmouth). Since then, he has typically released two solo albums a year, often in collaboration with guest artists. His 2007 album AP.9 Presents the Life and Timez of the Mob Figaz told stories about the founding and trials of Mob Figaz.[2] In October 2009, it was announced that teen Pop celebrity Aaron Carter was featured in AP.9's single "What It Is".[2]

Personal life

[edit]

AP.9 has had several incarcerations and brushes with the law, and has purportedly been shot 12 times.[1][4] He was close friends with Mac Dre, an Oakland rapper and one of the originators of the hyphy movement. After Dre's murder in 2004, AP.9 offered a $10,000 out-of-pocket reward in an effort to find Dre's stolen tombstone.[1][5]

AP.9 can be seen in an episode of A&E's Inked, where he gets a large back tattoo of Mob Figaz.[1][4]
