The first ever April Grand Prix attracted about 149,000 fans as the drivers lined up on the grid. These drivers had April on their birthday drawings of 2012 and were invited to the Grand Prix. Pole went to Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes. Unlike other races more than driver is allowed to race with one number; in this case Chimeri, O'Brien and Taylor raced #44, since they all raced it in their first F1 events, and de Bagration, Kennedy, Takahara and Vergne drove #18, while Fontes Bayardo and Gurney drove #36, with the #11 being driven by Ginther, Dumfries and Pease.
The race was held at Knockhill.
Pre-qualifying[edit]
All the drivers with less than 20 GP starts took part in a pre-qualifying session where the top eight went through.
