User:Samwb123/How to create proper citations (the easy way)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you have a source already, this is how to convert it to a proper citation:

  1. Go to the citation generator, click the appropriate bubble on the left (news article, website, book, etc.) and fill out as many fields as you can about the source.
  2. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  3. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref>{{cite .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  4. In the Wikipedia article, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you just copied after the sentence you made the citation for (replacing the original <ref> .... </ref> code with the text you just copied if there was a reference already).
  5. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
