The Interior Design Show (IDS), is an annual event and showcase that takes place at Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, during the Toronto Design Week towards the end of January. The IDS has been credited as the most important event for the Canadian interior design industry, generating millions of dollars for the development of the sector in Toronto and throughout Canada.
As Canada's biggest interior design exhibition, the IDS is a four day event that attracts over 50,000 attendees annually with world renowned designers, manufacturers and artists displaying the latest products and trends. Since it's inception, the show has been attended by over 660,000 visitors, design professionals and exhibitors occupying a floor space of 175,000 square feet[2]. The event opens with the IDS Opening Party which is attended by over 5,000 design enthusiasts, industry experts and professionals who are invited to a sneak peek into the displays of the exhibition as well as bid in an exclusive auction benefiting the ONEXONE children's foundation[3].
The exhibition begins with a Professional Trade Day, featuring keynote speeches and talks by prominent industry experts, this is followed by two public general admission days featuring presentations by celebrity designers[4].

In January of 1999, the first IDS exhibition drew in 25,000 visitors to see a number of key design industry professionals including Tyler Brûlé, founder of Wallpaper magazine and Gijs Bakker founder of Dutch concept design company, Droog[5].
As of 2012, IDS was purchased by Informa, a multi-national publishing and events company. Attendance at the IDS doubled since 2012[6].
Attractions[edit]
IDS showcases hundreds of booths and panels by designers from around the world, the 2014 edition featured prominent exhibits by IKEA, Miele and Caesarstone.
IDS 2014[edit]
The 2014 installment of IDS boasted over 320 exhibitors from around the world as well as celebrity interior designers and architects delivering keynote speeches at the Caesarstone Main Stage. The theme for 2014 was See Your Light which illustrated the creative and innovative techniques in which lighting can be used in interior designing [7].
In addition to showcasing international exhibitors, a large focus of the show is concentrated on highlighting both celebrated and emerging Canadian designers and architects. The annual Studio North exhibit in 2014, featured over 60 Canadian artists designers hailing from Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa exhibiting their latest innovations[8]. The event space also had a sector dedicated as a market for arts and crafts by local artists and merchants.
The Professional Trade Day featured experts such as creative director of Moroso, Patrizia Moroso, the 2014 IDS International Guest of Honour[9]. The second and third days, Globe Style Saturday and House & Home Sunday both featured an array of renowned and internationally recognized interior designers.
As part of the larger Toronto Design Week festivities, IDS also expanded to several artist hubs and "Offsite" locations in Toronto for feature exhibits such as the Gladstone Hotel that featured a 25 artwork installation as part of the Come Up To My Room art installation[10].
