1st Guards Cavalry Corps

On 26 November 1941 during the Battle of Moscow, the 2nd Cavalry Corps became the 1st Guards Cavalry Corps.

The 1st Guards Cavalry Corps was an elite unit in the Soviet Red Army reformed from the 2nd Cavalry Corps (Soviet Union) under General Pavel Belov later its divisional commander Viktor Kirillovich Baranov would replace Belov upon his promotion to the 61st Army and command it until the end of the war. It was the first Cavalry corp to earn guards status and by the end of the war it was one of the most decorated units in the Red Army.
