History

[edit]

According to Dropmyemail, founder John Fearon conceived the idea of Dropmyemail after "his clients emailed him asking for a solution to backup emails and database". Thats when he wanted to build Dropmyemail and realised "this as a big opportunity". [4] The team then worked on the problem and launched Dropmyemail.com on 1 March, 2012 at Demo Asia[3], a launchpad for emerging technology in Singapore.

As of April 2012, Dropmyemail had more than 525,000 users, growing at a rate faster than Twitter, Dropbox and Pininterest at the same time during their launch..[5][6]

Business model

[edit]

Dropmyemail uses a Freemium[7][8] business model, where users are offered a free account with a set storage size and paid subscriptions for accounts with more capacity.

Technology

[edit]

Dropmyemail's backed is written in Ruby on Rails[9] and is hosted on the Amazon Web Services Cloud Infrastructure. Most of the email platforms such as Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo etc are supported by Dropmyemail. Users can also backup their email via IMAP or POP settings[10].
