The 31st Great North Run took place on September 2011 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, United Kingdom with the men's and women's elite races and wheelchair races. Martin Mathathi won the men's race in a record time of 58 minutes and 56 seconds, taking nine seconds off Zersenay Tadese's 2005 record, whilst Lucy Wangui won the women's race.[1]

Canadian Josh Cassidy won the men's wheelchair race for the second time to set a new course record, and Shelly Woods won the women's race for the fourth time.
