From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Electrogharana is a style of music and musical performance born out of the experimentation done by DJ Ashish (Ashish Shrivastav) and classical Indian musician Azeem Khan when they tried to complement each other’s music during their musical sessions at the New Delhi restaurant The Second Sin in Saket, New Delhi.

They chose to combine two words “electronica” from modern style / genre of music with “gharana” used to define styles of music and dance in the classical Indian music tradition and coined the term ELECTROGHARANA.

Inspired by the ancient Indian tradition of “jugalbandi” this talented duo mixed and matched popular music tracks of different genres played by a club DJ to complement tunes played live on the sitar.

Other musicians on different instruments such as the tabla joined in to add new dimensions to this style of music. This is largely a new and evolving style and unique in some sense where live artists playing classical Indian instruments come together to make music with a DJ on a console.
