Sean Carey (born 1 November 1987) is a rugby player from Galway, Ireland who has represented Ireland u19s and the UAE national team. He plays as a Centre, Wing or Full Back.

Early Life[edit]

Sean attended second level schooling at St. Josephs College Garbally in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway and received a degree in Commerce from NUI Galway in 2009. He played his junior rugby with Ballinasloe RFC. [1]

Career[edit]

Carey played his rugby with the Buccaneers Rugby Club in Athlone and Connacht Rugby while studying at Garbally College and NUI Galway. During this time he also represented both Ireland u19s at the Rugby World Championships in Dubai in 2006[2][3][4][5][6]

When he finished his educational studies he then moved to France to spend a year playing with Stade Rodez Aveyron in the Federal 1 League. [7]

He then returned to Ireland and spent two seasons playing with Lansdowne RFC in Dublin and was part of the All-Ireland League winning team of 2012/13. [8][9][10][11]

In Sept 2013 Sean moved to Dubai to pursue a career in sports management. [12]

After 3 years of playing rugby in the UAE he qualified for the UAE National team through the 3 year World Rugby residence rule. In the Summer of 2017 he was capped 3 times against Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Phillipines. [13]

In the Summer of 2017 Carey founded the Dubai Eagles Rugby Club at Dubai Sports City. They compete in the West Asia Premiership. [14]
