[edit]

NC 24 was designated in 1921, beginning at Church Street[citation needed] (then designated NC 20) in Laurinburg and following what is now US 401 and US 401 Business into Fayetteville and leaving the city parallel to its current alignment on Hay Street, Person Street, and Clinton Road, running east through Stedman, Autryville, Roseboor, and Clinton before terminating at US 117 in Warsaw. In 1925, the route was extended west from Laurinburg, running southwest along what is now US 15/US 401 to the South Carolina state line.
