Kalakendra GOVINDARAJAN and Doraisamy, the producers who were “Kalakendra” had the theatre spirit and willingness (to cast/ casting actors in path breaking ‘one off, unique, off beat roles. For many players in the Film Industry Kalakendra Govindarajan and his partners’ faith in their abilities and talent made them earn laurels in the roles that Govindarajan had cast them in his movies.

Notable Succeeder[edit]
In the 1960s through 70s to create an audience for such novel and unique themes and make them willing to come back to the theater wanting more such in Tamil movies was because of their appetite for risk and willingness to take on bets in trying out to chisel,create and present them to the audience on Govindarajan’s brainchild platform Kalakendra. The partners and Govindarajan instead of churning out repeated ideas took enormous leaps of faith in the audiences appreciation and willingness to novel ideas.
From 1968 to 1985, the Kalakendra Producers' contribution to the Indian Cinema Industry movie business have been glorious. Kalakendra producers, secured many National, Regional and Filmfare and other awards for their Company Kalakendra and for the artists who worked for them. Actor Kamal Haasan, Playback Singer Vani Jayaram, Director Balachander, Photographer Loganathan to name a few.
Kalakendra Govindarajan’s knack for spotting talent, encouraging with passion and,involving himself in the artists and the films work is still remembered by one and all who were associated with him. That he and co-producers projected the Director of their movies, Balachander with Kalakendras name to all media and chose to remain behind the scenes instead of bringing the spotlight to the producers with the name of Kalakendra (though they were the makers and were Kalakendra) shows their complete passion for being true artists and taking pride in the glory of their CHILD Kalakendra.
