MediaWiki namespace

[edit]

Hey there! I noticed that you were deleting a lot of redirects from the MediaWiki namespace. Can I help you out? Where are the list of redirects you are deleting? --HappyCamper 03:36, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

Don't worry, I won't jump in until I feel thoroughly comfortable with what I'm doing. Is there somewhere I can read more about the purpose behind these deletions? --HappyCamper 03:51, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
Very well then. But don't you burn out over those deletions! :-) That can be quite tedious - I highly recommend visiting this page every now and then - helps keeps the Wikipedian healthy and happy :-) --HappyCamper 03:59, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

Vandalism

Hey Redwolf. An admin-type request for you. 63.41.192.53 (talk · contribs) (previously 63.41.192.123 (talk · contribs)) is going around and inserting a completely irrelevant link into Islam-related articles and trolling on talk pages. My RfA

[edit]

Thank you for Supporting my RfA! I was sad to see some people vote on the extremely minor problem that I don't use edit summaries enough. I am attempting to get them to switch to Neutral or reconsider based on WP:Point and switch to Support. There should be rules to how people can vote at RfA, but oh well. Thanks again! — Wackymacs 06:57, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

Wackymacs' RfA

[edit]

I must say I don't get your vote on Wackymacs' RFA. He uses edit summaries about 60% of the time, therefore... he'll abuse the tools? I understand not lending your support for those, but really, is opposing him necessary? I'm not sending this message to Xoloz as his opposition makes a lot more sense, but edit summary percentage seems to have absolutely no connection to being an admin, other than it may be understandable that you want admins to be of the highest quality, but then again, we really need as many as we can get, provided they don't abuse them, and as far as I know, sub-70 edit summaries doesn't indicate abuse. Redwolf24 (talk) 04:59, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

Sorry for the delay in replying to you. I wanted to give this question my full attention, as I feel it is an important one.
A big part of adminship is the enforcement of our rules and guidelines. When a police department looks at a potential candidate, the first thing they check is his or her criminal record. Even a high number of parking tickets can be an indication of a personality that isn't compatible with law enforcement.
Forgetting an edit summary seems like a very minor thing, but consistently forgetting to enter a summary for one out of every three or four edits is a symptom of a much deeper problem, I believe. Someone who casually ignores edit summaries is more likely to also do a sloppy job in closing AfDs, or properly warn vandals before blocking them.
I think it is no coincidence that Stevertigo, for example, has poor edit summary usage. He didn't stop using summaries when he was sysoped; he was always this way, but we chose to ignore this seemingly minor issue. In retrospect, this was a red light which should have indicated to us that we're dealing with someone who doesn't care about guidelines.
I don't expect everyone to meet my personal standards; I believe out of my last 1000 edits, 2 are missing an edit summary (and both caused me to cringe as soon as I pressed the "Save" button). This 99.8% rate may be too high a standard for most people; even 90% shows an editor takes this issue seriously. However, it is not unreasonable to demand that admins, who are essentially the face of Wikipedia, be expected to use edit summaries almost all the time. If we are to enforce guidelines and lead by example, our own behaviour should be exemplary. Owen× 16:44, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
I have replied at the RfA. He just isn't good enough according to me. Why must you troll for votes? I know you aren't running, but why are you trolling for others? They don't need your help, I refuse to change my vote because I find the user is not deserving, I said I expect 75% when truely I expect 90% or more. But I don't get that, so stop trolling everytime I make a vote that doesn't go your way. Everyone always bothers me, I explained myself, and my vote, now you can let me alone. Everyone may feel you're their big friend, and all that bull, but you're just some guy on wikipedia, as I am, its an unimportant project that involves us all. We don't need thousands of admins. They should be the select great few, not every Joe Somebody that comes along should be an admin. Wackymacs is just a Joe Somebody, as are you. There have at it, turn everyone against me. Private Butcher 19:25, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

... feel this strong force pulling me towards PB... pulling... pulling... OMG... now I'm right against him... --hydnjo talk 00:00, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
Okay I get it, ha ha ha, funny funny funny, get off me, all I was saying is that, I'm sure from what I said I'm going to be spun into a "problem user", thats "angry" and "violent" towards other users, and "unfit to continue using wikipedia", something like that. But fine, make fun of what I say, go right ahead. Private Butcher 19:50, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Question

[edit]

Im thinking about nominating my self for admin again in November 8th after all those impersonators of mine is getting way to much on my nerve and I just want to get that nice rollback and help Curps with those blocks. Should I and do u think it will pass or time and my Deletionest views 40% of my edits is in the Wikipedia namespace will kill it?. --JAranda | watz sup 00:23, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

  • Thanks for your response. I think mine is going to be a close one like 70%-80% which I think is not engoth I think and a if I place it now and a guarrante after November 21th I feel like taking a risk now though --JAranda | watz sup 03:01, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
  • I think that re-nominating might have been a mistake. I already got a oppose vote cause I can't spell --JAranda | watz sup 04:38, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
  • Mine is going to be a VERY CLOSE one now and if I fail which is a strong possibly could u renominate me in mid December like the 21st if u can. Thanks --JAranda | watz sup 20:05, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
    • Withdrew my nomination in 18 support 11 oppose 7 Neutral and intead im just requesting a rollback button here Thanks for your support in my rfa anyways. --JAranda | watz sup 22:02, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

Red, thanks again for the nom, and for the general friendlyness. Would you do me one more favor though, and archive all but the last 5 or six (pagemove, history, all that good stuff). If you could, that'd be really helpful. If not, I guess I'll just make a link or something. Thanks, Mysekurity e-mail 02:10, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

It's unneccesary to do it that way on talk pages, really. All comment SHOULD be signed, and assuming there's no shenanigans like altering eachother's comments, you can just copy and paste move. Alternatively you can blank it and link it to before you did, but that wouldn't be too great considering there's active sections. The active sections also stop me from pagemove archiving, as even after I did it, I'd have to copy and paste back the ACTIVE stuff, which is a Bad Thing. Sorry, Redwolf24 (talk) 02:13, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
Allright, but thanks anyway (and thanks for the snappy response!) -Mysekurity e-mail 02:15, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

My userpage

[edit]

Thanks for your vandalism, and for pointing out how little I keep that thing updated. Way to hurt my feelings!! On one hand, I want my page to be as prettyful as it can be, but on the other, I feel I should be here more for the article editing than the socializing (as much as I love talking with you). Plus, my design abilities, uh...don't exist. Thanks for vandalizing my page, -Mysekurity e-mail 03:18, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Hi Matt. I'm back and ready to mediate if you want me. To that end, I have commented out your message on WP:RFM. If you feel any mediation requests on that page are currently feasible, please give them to me! Best wishes, Sam Korn 18:18, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Innocent Blocking

[edit]

Dear Redwolf24, I have been blocked although I am innocent. I apparently was blamed for excess vandalism to the Kirk Fogg Page. My IP is 64.12.116.136, and my user name is FireSpike. The "User is Blocked Page" also claims I was warned several times and was blocked three times already. Please free me of the block as soon as possible.

Thank You, FireSpike 20:28, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Post here means IP has already changed, of course, but I unblocked by username anyway. Owen× 21:56, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

Voluntary Wikipedia Questionnaire

[edit]

Hi Redwolf24,

My name is Oliver Metz. I am a student at Brent International School, Manila, an International school located in the Philippines. I am doing my last year of school (12th Grade) and I am writing a research paper (about 4000 words) on Wikipedia in ITGS (Information Technology in a Global Society). Of 10 randomly picked people you have been chosen as one. If you are willing and have the time to answer a few questions I would be grateful if you could fill out a short questionnaire of 6 questions.

Some Information about my essay:

My essay topic is about the freedom to collaborate and the usage of the Internet as a tool to do so. I will analyze topics such as Altruism versus Egoism as well as the Product Wikipedia itself.

My Thesis Statement: The Internet is not only a medium for communication, information and marketing but also a place for altruism, collaboration and cooperation. Wikipedia is the product of a voluntary collaborative effort that defies commonly held beliefs about human nature.

If you have any further questions or requests you would like to pose before filling out the questionnaire I'd gladly answer them.

you can write to: [email protected] (I check this e-mail address regularly)

Questionnaire:

Please answer the following questions by either inserting the answers or sending them to me via e-mail. (*are not necessarily required).

Name*: Age*: Nationality*:

1. How long have you been contributing to Wikipedia?

2. Have you or are you planning to donate money to the Wikipedia cause?

3. When you first heard of Wikipedia and the concepts it is based on, what did you think about it and did you believe it could work? What do you think now?

4. Why do you think people contribute to Wikipedia? With it being voluntary what interests do/did you follow when contributing to Wikipedia?

5. Do you think that Wikipedia appeals to Altruism? If yes, do you think such a thing can exist in our society in which greed and consumption apparently drive the world?

6. What do you think makes Wikipedia most beneficial to society?

Further comments*:

With kind regards,

Oliver Metz --TakLung 00:07, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

Just to let you know, your message on the arbitration page about not accepting any other cases for awhile has disappeared (you can still see it when you edit the page, but not in the saved version). No Harm Done

[edit]

Thanks for your confidence in regards to the Med Com, I didn't expect much as I pretty much went back there for you; but if I can ever assist with pro-active peacekeeping work, please let me know, I don't need any aristocratic bureaucracy jibberish telling me that I can't help make Wikipedia a more friendly place. To be honest, I'm thinking of starting my own "viligante" peacekeeping wikiproject. Wikipedia needs a more immediate front line presence in incivility and edit disputes that the Mediational System is too unwieldy and formal to handle in my opinion, and admins individually are often overwhelmed or underequipped to handle all those problems popping up on their own. Also, one more thing, Don't ask me to work with Ral315 until he apologizes for those comments on the MedCom nomination, I was deeply offended by them. I'm a nice person, so I don't particularly enjoy "rivalries" such as what you described between Flcelloguy and Sam Spade before, but I don't particularly enjoy being around him from what i've seen of him so far, and I'd prefer to stay away from him for that sake unless his demeanor changes for civility's sake. RfM

[edit]

Just so you know, I withdrew my Mediation nom due to this:

"Oppose. User disagrees with the fundamental nature of mediation. --Improv 19:43, 4 November 2005 (UTC)"

This is poorly though out, contradicts 3+ paragraphs of mine right on the nomination(where I massively discoureg sysop power in mediation), puts straw-man words into my mouth, and is stictly wrong; It is therefore obviously just idiotic pile-on votes(I expect more from a mediator). Whenever an RfA/RfB/RfM has pile-on votes, you have already lost. I have seen this kind of thing happen so much I almost want to leave Wikipedia, like V Molotov did...just look at my user page...:-(.

Actually, just one oppose would kill a mediator, which explains why you guys are so overwhelmed with cases...not a very good system obviously.

Furtunetely, with you, Essjay, and Flcelloguy et al, the committee should hold together :-).Voice of All T|@|Esperanza 03:16, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

Request for mediation

[edit]

Redwolf, I have put in a request for mediation that was essentially denied by one of your committee. It is one that involves POV content put into Dominion of Melchizedek as well as other articles. This is a problem that has gone on for some time. As I have stated on the mediation page, I don't understand the reason the request was put in the request for comment section. Myself and others have tried this before and there are never enough comments to gain a new consensus.

Furthermore, Johnski's constant reverts are getting to the point it's rediculous. As I said on the mediation page, no one seems to be willing to deal with this problem. The content he is posting hurts the creditablity of Wikipedia. I urge you to look at this and reconsider allowing this to be mediated. Davidpdx 09:37, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
