Early activities

  • He was a freedom fighter who entered by taking an active participation in the Quit India movement in 1942.
  • During his college days he was secretary for the BT college student’s union for which Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy(Ex.CM) was president during 1947-1948. In 1946 he got arrested and detained for three months. This happened British during Mahatma Gandhi’s visit to Madanapalle.
  • Organised food distribution centers (sangati kendras) in anantapur district along with RAMAKRISHNA MISSON during famine of 1952,1953 for which former PM Pandit Nehru had a visit.
  • Fought for the rights of tribal, farmers with local land lords of kadiri area who were backed by congress government then.
  • Organised own private hostel (Vemana boys hostel) for students of kadiri region when government hostels were used for personal purposes by local congress leaders in early 1960s.

Arrests

  • In 1946 during Narasaiah's college days, he got arrested and detained for three months while serving as the secretary of the BT college student union. This happened during Mahatma Gandhi’s visit to Madanapalle.
  • In 1975, he went underground for nine months and later got arrested along with George Fernandez for a period of three months.
  • When he protested and organized huge public gatherings at various places in the district of Anantapur against the government for the drought situation in 1980, he got arrested for 24 days.

Political career

Inspired by Loknayak Jaya Prakash Narayan’s ideology, he entered into politics.

Ardent follower of Ram Manohar Lohia and strong supporter of prof ”Madhu dandawathe and Sardar Gouthu Lachanna.

He was close associate of George Fernandes (former union minister), Jaipal Reddy (former union minister), P. Bapul Reddy, Nayani Narasimha reddy(present Telangana state home minister) and P.V.G Raju(vijayanagaram).

  • Contested in 1956, 1967 Assembly elections for kadiri constituency on Praja Socialist Party
  • Served as National Council Member for Socialist party during 1966–69. # 3. Contested in 1980 Parliament elections for Hindupur constituency on Janata Party
  • Contested in 1983 Assembly elections for kadiri constituency on Janata Party
  • Won as Samithi president for kadiri east during 1981-86 term. Former Minister and Present Anantapur MP J. C. Diwakar Reddy was his colleague.
  • Contested in 1989 Assembly elections for kadiri constituency for Janata dal.
  • Has been serving as president for (Guinness record holder as world's biggest banyan tree) Thimmamma Marrimanu development committee board starting from its initiation.
  • His wife late smt. Rajeshwaramma served as sarpanch of Chamalagondi village panchayat of Gandlapenta mandal of Anantapur District for a period of over 32 years.
