Bhavanishankar Ravindra(born 1987) is an Indian Software engineer who is a Cerebral Palsy affected from birth. He is presently working as a Software engineer in Bangalore, India who is known for his opensource contributions in the Ubuntu Linux Community. Apart from his work, He is an advocate for building an inclusive society.[1]

Biography[edit]

Bhavanishankar Ravindra was born in Bangalore, India. A Preterm birth born at 6.5 months, He had delayed milestone because of Cerebral palsy to the extent of 75% which in effect had restricted moments of both hands and legs and was under constant rigorous physio therapy for nearly 20 years. he was taken to Spastic society for his admission to Special School. The doctors assessed his mental and physical activities. Since his brain was near about fully developed, He had physical disability, they advised his parents to admit him into a normal school, which was a big challenge as it was subject to take extra care as he was unable to negotiate uneven surfaces and used to fall down. If anybody push him slightly he used to lose balance of his foot, and even had difficulties in alighting stairs. His school authorities at Carmel School, Padmanabhanagar were kind enough to take special care for him as he had problems in writing stuff too due to restricted hand movements and because of virtue of his studies and due to constant physio therapy treatment for nearly 2 decades as per directions of doctors, his parents took the challenge. Because of their efforts his right side became comparatively better and he has a Bachelors in Electrical engineering and a double PGDM in Marketing and Finance Management. He is presently pursuing company secretary from ICSI.

Bhavanishankar Started his career 7 years ago at Mindtree as a software engineer and since then he has worked for Mphasis and is presently working for Accion Labs India Private Limited as a Senior Consultant. Apart from his regular work activities he contributes to the Ubuntu (operating system) community as a developer, he has also contributed previously as a council board member in the Ubuntu Community. An avid traveller too he has travelled to various parts of the world and has spoken at various conferences around the world on opensource. [2] [3] At present he is working towards inclusive and accessible envionments in office spaces.
