From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Phoenix High School (Open Campus) is located in Lawrencville, Ga. and is part of the Gwinnett County Public School System.

Classes meet fours days per week with most Fridays off (some Fridays required).

Phoenix offers an “open campus” option for students that are pursuing completion of their high school diploma.

All students that attend Phoenix must be in good standing with their school (i.e., not serving a suspension from another school), be at least 16 years old and have attended high school for one year.

Students are given adult privileges; therefore, students are expected to act as such (i.e., off-campus lunch option, no more than three absences permitted per class, three tardies equals one absence).

Block classes (125 minutes each) allow students to earn academic credit in less time than in the traditional high school setting.

A flexible class schedule (school is open 8 AM to 8 PM) allows students to balance attending school with work, family care, etc.

Students must live in Gwinnett County and have their own transportation to and from Phoenix.

Phoenix has a four minimester academic calendar (August - October, October - December, January - March and March - May).

Students may enroll at Phoenix as a full-time student (free of charge for three classes) or as a 7th period student ($195.00 per class).

Credit recovery courses are available for some classes if a student has failed a course with at least a 60.

Phoenix does not offer extracurricular clubs or activities so that students can completely focus on academics.

Most classes have a low student teacher ratio.

On-site day care available for parents attending classes with children (guidelines apply).
